The news follows SpaceX hitting a $100 billion valuation in October, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/10\/08\/elon-musks-spacex-valuation-100-billion.html\">CNBC<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX has an agreement with new and existing investors to sell up to $755 million in stock from insiders at $560 a share, according to multiple people familiar with the deal \u2014 increasing the company\u2019s valuation to $100.3 billion. The company did not raise new capital at this time, sources said, with the purchase offer representing a secondary sale of existing shares.<\/p>\n<p>The new share price is an increase of 33% from SpaceX\u2019s last valuation of $74 billion at $419.99 a share in February, when the company raised nearly $1.2 billion. The company had a similar secondary transaction in February, with a deal for insiders to sell up to $750 million at the time.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX\u2019s new valuation makes it one of the rare private \u201ccenticorn\u201d or \u201chectocorn\u201d companies in the world \u2014 a $1 billion unicorn 100 times over. Musk\u2019s SpaceX is now the second-most valuable private company in the world, according to CB Insights, behind only China\u2019s Bytedance and jumping past fintech firm Stripe.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, SpaceX is preparing to test its Starship rocket \u2014 a massive vessel that will one day carry mankind to Mars. NASA leased SpaceX launchpad 39A at Cape Canaveral, Florida \u2014 the same platform that once sent Apollo vessels to the moon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConstruction of Starship orbital launch pad at the Cape has begun,\u201d Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1466797158737268743?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1466797158737268743%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnbc.com%2F2021%2F12%2F03%2Felon-musk-spacex-starts-construction-of-starship-launchpad-in-florida.html\">tweeted<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c39A is hallowed spaceflight ground \u2014 no place more deserving of a Starship launch pad!\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1466851970443010056\">added<\/a>. \u201cWill have similar, but improved, ground systems &amp; tower to Starbase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Starship \u2014 equipped with 29 Raptor engines \u2014 stands 400 feet tall and is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/vehicles\/starship\/\">able<\/a> to carry over 220,000 pounds into orbit. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-building-starship-launch-pad-florida\">Space.com<\/a> explained that the launchpad will be the starting point for Mars missions:<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, SpaceX signed a 20-year lease agreement with NASA that lets the company use Pad 39A, the jumping-off point for all but two of the agency\u2019s crewed Apollo missions and most of its space shuttle flights. SpaceX already launches its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets from the site, but the giant Starship requires new infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX is developing Starship to take people and cargo to the moon, Mars and beyond. The vehicle consists of two fully reusable stages: a first-stage booster known as Super Heavy and an upper-stage spacecraft called Starship. A fully stacked Starship stands 395 feet (120 meters) tall \u2014 about 30 feet (9 m) higher than NASA\u2019s famous Saturn V moon rocket.<\/p>\n<p>NASA confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/12\/03\/elon-musk-spacex-starts-construction-of-starship-launchpad-in-florida.html\">CNBC<\/a> that SpaceX is \u201cwithin the rights of their lease agreement to make launch infrastructure improvements within the boundaries of the pad.\u201d The agency is not financing the new construction.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/29\/elon-musk-says-spacex-will-fly-humans-to-mars-within-10-years\/\">predicted<\/a> that SpaceX will be able to send humans to Mars within 10 years.
