Here are five of the most important Senate races to watch during the midterms:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pennsylvania <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Republican Pat Toomey is retiring after two terms, and his seat is one of just <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/United_States_Senate_elections,_2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">two<\/a> up for election where the current holder is of a different party than the candidate who won the state in 2020. Army veteran Sean Parnell, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/22\/sean-parnell-loses-child-custody-battle\/\">dropped<\/a> out of the race in November following a contentious custody battle that included accusations of domestic violence. State Sen. Jeff Bartos and television personality Dr. Mehmet <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/30\/mehmet-oz-declares-pennsylvania-senate\/\">Oz<\/a> are the two highest-profile Republicans in the race, although Bridgewater Associates CEO David McCormick is also considering a run.<\/p>\n<p>On the Democrat side, Rep. Conor <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/06\/conor-lamb-pennsylvania-senate-2022\/\">Lamb<\/a> and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman lead a field of fourteen. While Lamb has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.post-gazette.com\/opinion\/2020\/08\/25\/Conor-Lamb-Who-really-wants-to-defund-the-police\/stories\/202008250007\">critical<\/a> of left-wing efforts to defund the police, Fetterman previously <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/08\/john-fetterman-senate-bid-pennsylvania\/\">endorsed<\/a> Bernie Sanders for president, and the independent socialist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wesa.fm\/politics-government\/2018-07-12\/bernie-sanders-returns-to-pittsburgh-to-stump-for-john-fetterman\">returned<\/a> the favor when Fetterman toppled the state\u2019s lieutenant governor in a 2018 primary. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/10\/john-fetterman-pennsylvania-shotgun-black-jogger-miaryes\/\">(RELATED: John Fetterman, A Democratic Senate Candidate, Pulled A Shotgun On An Unarmed Black Jogger In 2013)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wisconsin<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the other state won by Joe Biden where a Republican currently holds a seat up for re-election, incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson has publicly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/18\/ron-johnson-retirement-2022-midterms\/\">considered<\/a> retirement. Mandela <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/20\/wisconsin-senate-2022-election-mandela-barnes\/\">Barnes<\/a> holds a nearly 30 point lead in a seven Democratic candidate field, according to an internal poll he <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/571297-internal-poll-shows-barnes-with-29-point-lead-over-democratic-field-in\">released<\/a> in September. However, the poll also found that 38% of Wisconsin Democratic primary voters remain undecided.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arizona<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sen. Mark Kelly, who <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/11\/04\/mark-kelly-beats-martha-mcsally-arizona-election\/\">defeated<\/a> Martha McSally in a 2020 special election, will run for a full six-year term. Following the statewide victories of Sen. Kyrsten Sinema in 2018, and Kelly and Joe Biden in 2020, many Democrats have begun to view Arizona as a key swing state. Biden was the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the state since Bill Clinton in 1996, and Sinema was the first Democratic senator elected by Arizonans since Dennis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2018\/11\/12\/667214148\/democrat-kyrsten-sinema-wins-arizona-senate-seat\">DeConcini<\/a> in 1988.<\/p>\n<p>In a blow to Republicans, Gov. Doug Ducey <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/10\/rick-scott-national-republican-senatorial-committee-2022-senate-races-nevada-arizona-new-hampshire\/\">declined<\/a> to run against Kelly. Attorney General Mark Brnovich led the field of Republican candidates in early November with the support of 27% of GOP primary voters, a poll conducted by OH Insights <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ohpredictive.com\/press-releases\/state-of-arizona-governor-and-senate-primaries?utm_content=188469172\">found<\/a>. No other candidate garnered more than 12% support.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nevada<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Freshman Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/04\/catherine-cortez-masto-adam-laxalt-poll-nevada\/\">Masto<\/a> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrafalgargroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/TRF-Nevada-22-Sen-Poll-Report.pdf\">polling<\/a> neck-and-neck with former state Attorney General Adam <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/17\/adam-laxalt-senate-bid-nevada-2022\/\">Laxalt<\/a>. In her first race, Cortez Masto defeated Rep. Joe Heck by fewer than three points. Although the political environment favors Republicans, with voters <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/14\/gop-largest-lead-midterm-election-vote-40-years-poll\/\">preferring<\/a> a generic GOP candidate to a generic Democrat by as many as ten points, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvsos.gov\/silverstate2016gen\/USSenate\/#race2\">each<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvsos.gov\/silverstate2016gen\/USSenate\/#race2\">last<\/a> four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvsos.gov\/silverstate2010gen\/\">Nevada<\/a> Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvsos.gov\/silverstate2012gen\/USSenate\/#race2\">races<\/a> has been decided by five percentage points or fewer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ohio <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although Democrat Sherrod Brown holds Ohio\u2019s other Senate seat, the state has trended red in recent years. Republican Gov. Mike DeWine <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/11\/06\/mike-dewine-wins-ohio-gubernatorial\/\">won<\/a> his 2018 race against Democrat Richard Cordray by more than 200,000 votes, and Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/2020-election\/results\/ohio\/\">won<\/a> the state by eight points in 2020. With two-term Sen. Rob Portman retiring, however, the GOP field is wide open. Former Treasurer Josh Mandel, who failed to knock off Brown in 2012, leads the group of fourteen candidates with just over 21% support, a recent Trafalgar poll found.
