GasBuddy predicts similar prices in June, as it estimates national gas prices could span between&nbsp;$3.43 \u2013 $4.13, with a national average of $3.78 per gallon.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cA national average of $4 per gallon is possible this spring, largely due to pandemic recovery and rising demand before relief, or additional oil supply, arrives later in 2022,&#8217;\u201d GasBuddy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getrevue.co\/profile\/gasbuddyguy\/issues\/gas-price-surge-isn-t-over-4-gal-could-happen-in-2022-before-any-relief-arrives-958027\">wrote<\/a> in a newsletter accompanying the report.<\/p>\n<p>While most major cities could see prices top out at $4.00 a gallon, California metro areas such as San Francisco and Sacramento could face costs exceeding $5.00 per gallon, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of California cities, the report forecasts San Francisco\u2019s highest daily average to peak anywhere between&nbsp;$5.25 \u2013 $5.65, while Sacramento is projected to range between&nbsp;$4.95 \u2013 $5.25. Gavin Newsom\u2019s California <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/?state=US\">registers<\/a> at $4.65, according to AAA data as of December 29.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The newsletter said prices will drop heading into the latter portion of 2022, \u201cfalling back to potentially just under $3 per gallon by the holiday season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GasBuddy estimates the national gas bill to reach $485 billion, which is \u201c<span>an increase of nearly $80 billion from last year as the average.\u201d The average American household is projected to shell out $2,341 on gasoline throughout the year, potentially reaching the highest mark since 2014.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the newsletter, GasBuddy\u2019s head of petroleum analysis,&nbsp;Patrick De Haan stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>While Americans are likely to see higher prices in 2022, it\u2019s a sign that the economy continues to recover from Covid-19. The higher prices go, the stronger the economy is. No one would love to see $4 per gallon gasoline, but we\u2019ll only get there on the back of a very strong economy, so it\u2019s not necessarily bad news.
