The quote appears to have originated from a satirical Instagram account.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The consumer price index (CPI), an important measurement index for inflation, has increased by 6.8 percent over the past year, the sharpest increase since 1982, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/technology-lifestyle-business-inflation-europe-b1f130df5103bf5f73eecd082c12764a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a>. Now, some social media users are sharing a screenshot of what appears to be a news article that claims Psaki said, \u201cIf you don\u2019t buy anything, you won\u2019t experience inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t buy anything,\u201d it also quotes her as supposedly saying. \u201cBarter for food and necessities then you won\u2019t even see a price tag.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/05\/18\/fact-check-photo-joe-biden-jen-psaki\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Viral Post Claims To Show Photo Of Joe Biden And Jen Psaki)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is, however, no evidence that Psaki made these comments. Check Your Fact didn\u2019t find any instances of the alleged quotes on the White House\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/?s=If+you+don%27t+buy+anything%2C+you+won%27t+experience+inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> or on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=inflation%20(from%3Ajrpsaki%20OR%20from%3APressSec)&amp;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">either<\/a> of Pskai\u2019s verified <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PressSec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jrpsaki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accounts<\/a>. There are likewise no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=if+you+don%27t+buy+anything+you+won%27t+experience+inflation&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=nws&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwit55bavof1AhWyQzABHWsdANcQ_AUoAnoECAEQBA&amp;biw=1440&amp;bih=821&amp;dpr=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credible media reports<\/a> about Psaki making the remarks.<\/p>\n<p>Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cbsnews\/status\/1459229069615247363\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> of Psaki included in the post is from a Nov. 12 White House press briefing. The transcript for that particular briefing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2021\/11\/12\/press-briefing-by-press-secretary-jen-psaki-november-12-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">does not include<\/a> the quotes either, though Psaki did mention inflation several times during it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would note that everyone from the Federal Reserve to Wall Street agree with our assessment that inflation is already expected to be subs- \u2014 to substantially decelerate next year,\u201d said Psaki at one point in the briefing. \u201cI know you\u2019re not talking about that, but that\u2019s an important component here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The purported quotes appear to stem from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CXhQArUPQNc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beep.satire<\/a>, a satirical Instagram page that shared the same image on Dec. 15.
