Our police department, already desperately understaffed, cannot afford to lose any more police officers willing to work a dangerous job,\u201d BPSOF concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Wu said in her announcement on December 20 that more than 90 percent of city workers had been vaccinated under the existing policy, which includes the coronavirus testing alternative to the vaccine. The Democrat mayor said she is now stripping city employees of the testing option, noting, \u201cThis is a response that is rooted in science and public health.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>In response to the opposition to the new mandate, a city spokesperson&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2021\/12\/27\/boston-police-union-slams-coronavirus-vaccine-mandate-and-michelle-wu-says-its-exploring-legal-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a>&nbsp;the&nbsp;<em>Boston Herald<\/em>, \u201cThe previous Administration\u2019s policy in no way limits the City\u2019s authority to make this necessary update, although like the previous policy, the impacts will also be negotiated.\u201d The spokesperson highlighted that the new policy \u201cbuilds in appropriate time for compliance, and our expectation is that all of our city\u2019s workforce will join us in protecting our communities by taking every action possible to end this pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mandate came in conjunction with a draconian move by Wu to&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.gov\/departments\/mayors-office\/introducing-b-together\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">require<\/a>&nbsp;staff and patrons at all Boston indoor restaurants, fitness facilities, and entertainment venues show proof that they have received the vaccine, a mandate that falls in line with those being implemented in a handful of other Democrat-run cities, including New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, as well as Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>BPSOF is one in a string of first responder entities pushing back on Wu\u2019s decision as it relates to city employees.<\/p>\n<p>Boston First Responders United&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2021\/12\/28\/boston-workers-organizing-against-coronavirus-vaccine-mandate-tyranny-is-here-on-our-doorstep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gathered<\/a>&nbsp;Tuesday in West Roxbury to discuss its legal options and said it is preparing a lawsuit against the city, according to the&nbsp;<em>Herald<\/em>. The group wrote in an email about the event,&nbsp;\u201cTyranny is here on our doorstep and if we do not act now, in concert with ALL city workers, then we are sealing our own fate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AFSCME Council 93, \u201cwhich represents about 2,000 city employees who work in a wide range of essential positions,\u201d said it plans to pursue negotiations with the city related to the vaccine mandate because, it argued, \u201cany policy related to vaccinations as a condition of employment must be negotiated with the union,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>Herald&nbsp;<\/em>reported.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Lou Murray, an active member of the Massachusetts Republican Party and Catholic community,&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LouisLMurrayJr1\/status\/1473993580272365572?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posted<\/a>&nbsp;a thread of tweets last week that show city workers protesting the mandate.
