Bush for his biodefense work. Federal employees with his tenure can retire with up to&nbsp;\u201c80 percent of [their] high-3 average salary, plus credit for [their] sick leave,\u201d according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.<\/p>\n<p><em>Forbes<\/em> calculated Fauci\u2019s retirement based on his 2018, 2019, and 2020 earnings after filing a&nbsp;federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit. Between 2018 and 2020, Fauci earned $1.252 million as a federal employee. Per <em>Forbes<\/em>:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Documents released to our non-profit organization OpenTheBooks.com reveal that Dr. Fauci was&nbsp;<a class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.openthebooks.com\/assets\/1\/6\/NIH_FOIA_-_55847_Andrzejewski_-_Partial_Response_-_Employment_Contract_(003).pdf\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openthebooks.com\/assets\/1\/6\/NIH_FOIA_-_55847_Andrzejewski_-_Partial_Response_-_Employment_Contract_(003).pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">approved for<\/a>&nbsp;a \u201cpermanent pay adjustment\u201d in excess of his regular salary in December 2004, to \u201cappropriately compensate him for the level of responsibility\u2026 especially as it relates to his work on biodefense research activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From 2004 through 2007, Fauci received a 68-percent pay increase from $200,000- to $335,000-a year. This award was permanent and carried forward through 2020.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Either way, Fauci has made it clear he has no plans to retire anytime soon, at least not until the coronavirus pandemic concludes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no way I\u2019m going to walk away from this until we get this under control. I mean, that\u2019s the purpose of what we do. That\u2019s \u2013 that\u2019s our mission in life. In the middle of it, I\u2019m not going to walk away,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/week-transcript-12-12-21-dr-anthony-fauci\/story?id=81833124\">he told<\/a> ABC\u2019s Jonathan Karl earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Fauci likened the pandemic to World War II, adding that we are only \u201chalfway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s kind of like we\u2019re halfway through World War II, and you decide, well, I think I\u2019ve had enough of this,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can\u2019t do that.
