The omicron variant accounts for over 90 percent of new coronavirus cases within the state, according to local officials.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>There are other monoclonal antibody treatments available, like the one made by Regeneron. Still, those are not effective against the omicron variant.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Due to national shortage from the federal government of the monoclonal antibody, sotrovimab, regional infusion centers across Texas have exhausted supply until January. <\/p>\n<p>People who had appointments scheduled this week will be contacted.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RJyzo7S8qR\">https:\/\/t.co\/RJyzo7S8qR<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/f57ZsudtP1\">pic.twitter.com\/f57ZsudtP1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Texas DSHS (@TexasDSHS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TexasDSHS\/status\/1475588434270035971?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 27, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Infusion centers in Austin, El Paso, San Antonio, Fort Worth, and the Woodlands&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phe.gov\/emergency\/events\/COVID19\/investigation-MCM\/Sotrovimab\/Pages\/Update-17-Dec21.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">received<\/a>&nbsp;2,694 doses of Sotrovimab from the federal government on December 17.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The state does not expect to receive more doses from the federal government until next month.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas commission&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dshs.texas.gov\/news\/releases\/2021\/20211227.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The federal government controls the distribution of monoclonal antibodies, and the regional infusion centers in Austin, El Paso, Fort Worth, San Antonio and The Woodlands have exhausted their supply of sotrovimab, the monoclonal antibody effective against the COVID-19 Omicron variant, due to the national shortage from the federal government. They will not be able to offer it until federal authorities ship additional courses of sotrovimab to Texas in January.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Texas anticipates Pfizer\u2019s paxlovid and Merck\u2019s molnupiravir, two new oral antiviral&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kvue.com\/article\/news\/nation-world\/new-covid-19-pills-within-five-days\/507-ce7e6b9f-08e2-4f84-8019-d9893f71fb9e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drugs<\/a>&nbsp;authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration last week, will be available in a limited capacity to Texas residents soon.<\/p>\n<p>Texas DSHS encouraged individuals to take preventative measures, such as wearing masks or getting vaccinated, to protect themselves against coronavirus and the omicron variant.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Omicron variant now accounts for more than 90 percent of new COVID cases.
