Nancy Mace (R-SC), whose office is two doors down from Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, noted that \u201cinsurrectionists\u201d never made it to their hall when the U.S. Capitol building was breached on Jan. 6.&nbsp;Mace made the note while hitting the media for their attempts to&nbsp;\u201cfan fictitious news flames\u201d about the breach.<\/p>\n<p>On Jan. 6, Mace <a href=\"https:\/\/www.counton2.com\/news\/national-news\/rep-mace-evacuated-from-office-as-protesters-storm-capitol\/\">tweeted<\/a> that she left her office in the Cannon Building: \u201cJust evacuated my office in Cannon due to a nearby thereat,\u201d she wrote. \u201cNow we\u2019re seeing protesters assaulting Capitol Police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>RedState <a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/nick-arama\/2021\/02\/03\/321029-n321029\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>AOC wasn\u2019t even in the Capitol building where all the action was going down. If she was in her office, she was in the Cannon Building which is nearby, but a different building. But of course, many didn\u2019t get the logistics and just assumed that she was in the Capitol building.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>According to Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who has an office in the same hall as AOC, two doors away, there were never any rioters in their hall so there was never any physical danger from rioters coming in at any point.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">\u201c[Ocasio-Cortez]&nbsp;<\/span>made clear she didn\u2019t know who was at her door,\u201d the Republican wrote, captioning a post from Newsweek. \u201cBreathless attempts by media to fan fictitious news flames are dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy office is 2 doors down,\u201d Mace underscored. \u201cInsurrectionists never stormed our hallway. Nancy Mace (@RepNancyMace) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepNancyMace\/status\/1356677360507052034?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 2, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Reporting on AOC\u2019s recollection of the events on Jan. 6, Newsweek <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-hid-bathroom-during-capitol-riot-thought-she-was-going-die-1565977\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Ocasio-Cortez said that rioters actually entered her office, forcing her to take refuge inside her bathroom after her legislative director Geraldo Bonilla-Chavez told her to \u201chide, hide, run and hide.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAnd so I run back into my office,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez said. \u201cI slam my door. There\u2019s another kind of like back area to my office, and I open it, and there\u2019s a closet and a bathroom. And I jump into my bathroom.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ocasio-Cortez said was hiding behind the door \u201cand then I just start to hear these yells of, \u2018Where is she?&#8217;\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>As members of the mob banged against the door, Ocasio-Cortez believed \u201cthis was the moment where I thought everything was over.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAnd the weird thing about moments like these is that you lose all sense of time,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez continued. \u201cIn retrospect, maybe it was 4 seconds. Maybe it was 5 seconds, maybe it was 10 seconds. Maybe it was one second, I don\u2019t know. It felt like my brain was able to have so many thoughts.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn between the screams and the yells,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez added, \u201cI mean, I thought I was going to die.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mace argued that Newsweek was misleading in how they categorized AOC\u2019s own account in an effort to \u201cfan fictitious news flames.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Monday night, via Instagram, AOC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/aoc\/\">recounted<\/a> the events on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of a sudden I hear, boom, boom, boom, boom on my door,\u201d the congresswoman said. \u201cAnd then I hear these huge violent bangs on my door, and then on every door going into my office. Just, bang bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. Like, someone was trying to break the door down. And um, there were no voices; there were no yells \u2026 no one identifying themselves. And just, boom, boom, boom. And I just get up \u2026 and I run over to the legislative office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez then ran into her bathroom, before deciding she should have hidden in her closet. On her way to move to the closet, she recalled. \u201cI start opening the door to my bathroom, and I\u2019m gonna run across to the closet. \u2026<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span> And I hear that whoever was trying to get inside, got into my office. And then I realize that it\u2019s too late for me to get into the closet. So I go back in, I hide back in \u2026 and then I just start to hear these yells of, Where is she? Where is she?
