President Joe Biden would have won seven of the districts in 2020, while former President Donald Trump would have won six, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redistrict\/status\/1475932093255405571\">according<\/a> to David Wasserman, a senior editor at the Cook Political Report.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Biden\u2019s narrow edge on the new map, incumbent Democratic Reps. Elissa Slotkin, Dan Kildee and Andy Levin could be forced to run in very competitive seats as their party faces political headwinds ahead of the 2022 midterms. Republican Rep. Peter Meijer may also face a contentious race in 2022, as his current Grand Rapids-based 3rd district was put into a new district that Biden would have won by nine points in 2020, Wasserman said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7344015\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7344015\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michigan\u2019s new US House map. (Courtesy Michigan Independent Redistricting Commission)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Shortly after the map was adopted, Meijer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VoteMeijer\/status\/1475940182071382022\">announced<\/a> that he would run in the new 3rd District.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HaleyLive\/status\/1475932110049402887\">announced<\/a> that she would run in the new 11th District, which she currently represents. The new district, however, is a much safer seat than the swing district in which she won in 2018 and 2020. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/25\/texas-congressional-map-two-new-seats-greg-abbott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Texas Finalizes Congressional Map That Shores Up Republicans\u2019 Advantage)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It also includes the hometown of Democratic Rep. Andy Levin, and he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Andy_Levin\/status\/1475941554435018752\">announced<\/a> shortly after that he would also run in the new 11th District, opting not to run in the much more competitive 10th and creating what could be the first of multiple incumbent-versus-incumbent primaries in the state. If Levin does not change his mind, then the 10th could be an open seat, and two-time Republican Senate candidate John James has reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2021\/12\/28\/john-james-strongly-considering-run-u-s-house-under-new-map\/9037505002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">considered launching a bid<\/a>.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/21\/california-congressional-map-democratic-majority\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: California\u2019s New Map Bolsters Its Democratic Majorities)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Slotkin also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ElissaSlotkin\/status\/1475938148534394888\">announced<\/a> that she would&nbsp;move from the 8th District to the new Lansing-based 7th District, while Kildee <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dankildee\/status\/1475924434695430156\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> he would seek re-election in the new 8th District, which like his current seat includes Flint and Saginaw.<\/p>\n<p>While the new map gives Biden a 7-6 edge, Wasserman noted that it could swing as much as 9-4 for Republicans in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
