While his mode of transportation created a buzz in Iceland, Kerry has avoided scrutiny for his choice in the United States until <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/john-kerry-private-jet-iceland-climate-award\">Fox News<\/a> reported his justifications to Icelandic reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Reporter J\u00f3hann Bjarni Kolbeinsson was one of the first to confront Kerry over his choice of travel, saying, \u201cI understand that you came here with a private jet. Is that an environmental way to travel?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kerry said it was his \u201conly choice\u201d and touted his record on climate activism to justify his high-emissions mode of travel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you offset your carbon \u2013 it\u2019s the only choice for somebody like me who is traveling the world to win this battle,\u201d Kerry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI negotiated the Paris Accords for the United States,\u201d he added. The Paris Climate Accords is a symbolic multilateral agreement to cut emissions negotiated under former President Barack Obama, abandoned by former President Donald Trump, and will likely be rejoined by the United States under President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been involved with this fight for years. I negotiated with [Chinese] President Xi to bring President Xi to the table so we could get Paris,\u201d Kerry said, referring to the Accords. \u201cAnd, I believe, the time it takes me to get somewhere, I can\u2019t sail across the ocean. I have to fly, meet with people and get things done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He did not give a reason why he chose to fly private rather than commercial. Per passenger, private jets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2019\/oct\/27\/super-rich-fuelling-growing-demand-for-private-jets-report-finds\">produce<\/a> an estimated 40 times more carbon than commercial flights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, what I\u2019m doing, almost full time, is working to win the battle on climate change, and in the end, if I offset and contribute my life to do this, I\u2019m not going to be put on the defensive,\u201d Kerry said.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, U.S. climate czar Kerry\u2019s family was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-john-kerrys-family-owns-private-jet-despite-his-role-combating-fossil-fuels-in-biden-admin-report\">revealed<\/a> to own a private jet despite Kerry\u2019s commitment to combating climate change. Federal Aviation Administration records show a Gulfstream Aerospace jet owned by Kerry\u2019s wife\u2019s private charter jet company. The jet\u2019s registration expires in October 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Also last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/john-kerry-gas-industry-workers-who-lose-their-jobs-can-go-make-the-solar-panels\">Kerry<\/a> was slammed for telling fossil fuel workers who may lose their jobs because of the Biden administration\u2019s policies on climate change that they can find alternate work in the clean energy industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, you look at the consequences of black lung for a miner, for instance, and measure that against the fastest-growing job in the United States before COVID was solar power technician. The same people can do those jobs, but the choice of doing the solar power one now is a better choice.
