Matt Cardy\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The riders then began parading in front of a crowd of supporters which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/punches-pints-thrown-violence-erupts-25794192\">reported<\/a> by left-leaning tabloid&nbsp;<em>The Mirror<\/em>,&nbsp;to be \u201chundreds\u201d strong.<\/p>\n<p>Hunting on Boxing Day is an English tradition that dates back many centuries. Many thanks to Sam Nash for sharing this great footage. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GsFTDk8l5i\">pic.twitter.com\/GsFTDk8l5i<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Countryside Alliance (@CAupdates) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CAupdates\/status\/1475499805581484033?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 27, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The day ran into trouble, however, after protestors dressed in black and brandishing anti-hunting signs began to picket the proceedings, and attempted to stop the Avon Vale Hunt Group from carrying out the traditional Boxing Day meet, Wiltshire Live <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiltshirelive.co.uk\/news\/wiltshire-news\/boxing-day-hunt-descends-violence-6409269\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In footage shared to social media punches can be seen to thrown, and individuals shoving each other about.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals from both sides of the line can also be seen attempting to break up the brawl.<\/p>\n<p>Wiltshire police have <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2021\/12\/27\/violence-breaks-out-at-avon-vale-boxing-day-hunt-amid-calls-for-ban-15828174\/\">said<\/a> they are making \u201cenquiries\u201d into what took place, but as of yet \u201cno arrests have been made\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_19283562\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1074879370.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19283562\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1074879370.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matt Cardy\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Protestors picketed the event despite hunting with dogs currently being illegal in Britain, with the hunt on Monday being a \u2018trail hunt\u2019, that meaning the hunters use dogs to follow an artificial scent laid before the pack, a compromise reached to maintain the tradition of Britain\u2019s hunts after the law was changed in 2004. Hunters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eadt.co.uk\/news\/boxing-day-hunts-go-ahead-in-suffolk-8588352\">claim<\/a> this practice causes no harm to animals, and it is allowed under the current restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-hunt groups, however, allege that \u2018trail hunts\u2019 are used as a cover for genuine fox hunting. There have been no reported claims the Avon Vale Hunt does so, however.<\/p>\n<p>Fox Hunting with dogs in Britain was banned under Tony Blair\u2019s Labour government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2004\/37\/contents\">Hunting Act of 2004<\/a>.
