There were over 14,000 global flight delays.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Seattle-Tacoma International Airport had the highest volume of canceled or delayed flights, canceling 125 flights and delaying another 215.<\/p>\n<p>SkyWest, a Utah-based airline, had the&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/flightaware.com\/live\/cancelled\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">highest<\/a>&nbsp;amount of disruptions for U.S. airlines, with 416 cancelations and 780 delays.<\/p>\n<p>The cancelations also impacted major airlines such as Alaska, American, Delta, and United.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_19274690\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/12\/wi\/ap\/27\/virus-outbreak-holiday-travel-travelers-queue-up-at-southwest-airlines-curbside-check-at-denver.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19274690\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/virus-outbreak-holiday-travel-travelers-queue-up-at-southwest-airlines-curbside-check-at-denver-1024x707-1.jpg\" alt=\"The Associated Press\" width=\"644\" height=\"444\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Travelers queue up at the Southwest Airlines curbside check-in area at Denver International Airport Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, in Denver. (AP Photo\/David Zalubowski)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The airlines chalked up the delays and cancelations to call-outs related to the omicron strain of the coronavirus or poor weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe nationwide spike in omicron cases has had a direct impact on our flight crews and the people who run our operation,\u201d United&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/transportation\/aviation\/587386-1000-more-us-flights-canceled-monday-amid-omicron-disruptions?rl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cAs a result, we\u2019ve unfortunately had to cancel some flights and are notifying impacted customers in advance of them coming to the airport\u201d<\/p>\n<p>John Laughter, Delta Airlines Vice President and Chief of Operations,&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/travel\/airline-news\/2021\/12\/27\/flights-canceled-delayed-monday\/9022357002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;the situation was \u201ca perfect storm that includes relentless weather systems coupled with the omicron variant surge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alaska Airlines cited winter weather in the Pacific Northwest as the reason for its 167 cancelations, which made up 24 percent of its Monday operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re working as quickly as possible to get all our affected guests rebooked on other flights, while operating safely,\u201d Alaska Airlines&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/27\/business\/flights-canceled-omicron-covid\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cReservations is experiencing extremely long hold times of up to 11 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s disruptions continue the streak of cancelations and delays that began on Christmas Eve. According to&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/flights-canceled-flight-cancelations-united-status-covid-travel\/11392686\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC7<\/a>, \u201cA combined 1,700 flights were canceled on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.\u201d Additionally, 1,517 U.S. flights were canceled on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the cancelations occurred during one of the busiest travel periods for Americans. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA)&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/27\/business\/flights-canceled-omicron-covid\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">screened<\/a>&nbsp;2.19 million travelers on December 23 and over 1.53 million on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over a thousand U.S. flights were canceled on Monday, adding to the at least 6,000 flights that have been delayed globally since Christmas Eve.
