But the backlash against the final episode of \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d was extreme. Fans and critics universally panned the ending, saying it was a huge disappointment after so many years of build-up.<\/p>\n<p>But at least one main character from the show is speaking out in favor of the decision to have Daenerys go full Mad Queen, crown Bran king, banish Jon Snow to the North, and watch Drogon literally melt the Iron Throne. Peter Dinklage, who played Tyrion Lannister on the show, discussed his thoughts during an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/12\/22\/movies\/peter-dinklage-cyrano.html\">interview<\/a> with the New York Times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Fans] wanted the pretty white people to ride off into the sunset together. By the way, it\u2019s fiction. There\u2019s dragons in it. Move on,\u201d the 52-year-old actor said.<\/p>\n<p>Dinklage went on to describe the challenge series creators had with concocting an ending to a series based on books that weren\u2019t finished yet. And he claims that surprising the audience was part of the appeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe show subverts what you think, and that\u2019s what I love about it,\u201d Dinklage said.&nbsp; \u201cYeah, it was called \u2018Game of Thrones,\u2019 but at the end, the whole dialogue when people would approach me on the street was, \u2018Who\u2019s going to be on the throne?\u2019 I don\u2019t know why that was their takeaway because the show really was more than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The actor went on to describe how he believed the throne melting was one of the best parts of \u201cGame of Thrones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of my favorite moments was when the dragon burned the throne because it sort of just killed that whole conversation, which is really irreverent and kind of brilliant on behalf of the show\u2019s creators: \u2018Shut up, it\u2019s not about that,&#8217;\u201d Dinklage told the Times. \u201cThey constantly did that, where you thought one thing and they delivered another. Everybody had their own stories going on while watching that show, but nobody\u2019s was as good as what the show delivered, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Previously, actor Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, also defended what happened in the \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d finale.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen people say to me, \u2018I wish you\u2019d been on the Throne or I wish you\u2019d been with Dany on the Throne,\u2019 I disagree because Jon\u2019s place was always in the North,\u201d he told fans during a Q&amp;A session post-finale.<\/p>\n<p>But the actor did admit to being shocked and saddened when reading the script for the first time. After Harington claims he \u201cdidn\u2019t realize what was going to happen,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/emmys-bill-hader-jharrel-jerome-more-nominated-actors-reveal-favorite-scenes-set-rituals-1231708\/item\/emmys-2019-leading-actors-mahershala-ali-1231752\">described<\/a> his reaction to The Hollywood Reporter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember my mouth dropping open and looking across Emilia [Clarke] at the table, who was slowly nodding as I went, \u2018No, no, no!\u2019 It was a \u2018holy (expletive)\u2019 moment,\u201d he shared. \u201cJaw-dropping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGame of Thrones\u201d ended in 2019, but HBO is developing a prequel series called \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d that explores the world of Westeros 200 years before \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d events occur.
