Winning felt good and they kept going. Over the course of this year, through a series of elections, appointments and City Council votes, they have helped get four candidates onto the school board and another four onto the library board, Ms. Crabtree said, the latter after a disagreement over a display of L.G.B.T.Q. books for Pride Month.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe [group\u2019s members] have assumed effective control of most of the public bodies in Enid,\u201d Mr. Ezzell said this month. He estimated that those who cared enough about the mask mandate to show up at a public meeting to speak against it were a small minority of the city\u2019s 50,000 population. But they had an outsize effect on the Council\u2019s moderate members, because in this moment of defensiveness and threat, <strong>going against members of your own tribe<\/strong>&nbsp;[emphasis added] is extremely difficult.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The claim of tribal politics was broadened by a quote from a picked academic in Israel:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf my <strong>American identity<\/strong>&nbsp;[emhphasis added] is an important part of who I am, and suddenly there\u2019s a serious threat to that, in some ways that means I don\u2019t know who I am anymore,\u201d [Eran Halperin] said. \u201cIt\u2019s an attack on the very core of how I see myself, of how I understand myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Waddell, who lost his seat on the city council to the grassroots movement, blamed local voters\u2019 response to the diversity that is being imposed by the federal government\u2019s delivery of legal immigrant and illegal migrants to local companies, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/02\/04\/pete-buttigieg-promises-endless-foreign-labor-to-u-s-employers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the meatpacking plants<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>He said America is in a moment when the people who ran things from the beginning \u2014 mostly white, mostly Christian, mostly male \u2014 are now having to share control. Their story about America is being challenged. New versions are becoming mainstream, and that, he believes, is threatening \u2026&nbsp;He sees it as the next chapter in the story of what it means to be an American, of who gets to write this country\u2019s story.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <em>NYTimes<\/em>&nbsp;is strenuously pro-migration, and it posted the article under an apocalyptic headline:&nbsp; \u201cFirst They Fought About Masks. Then Over the Soul of the City.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>But the local American voters have a modest explanation for their success.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Oklahoma National Guard is facing off against the Biden Pentagon over its vaccine mandate for service members. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wOe1YYzmKx\">https:\/\/t.co\/wOe1YYzmKx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1461538512772214786?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 19, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThere are a whole bunch of people who are realizing, oh, apathy didn\u2019t serve us well,\u201d local activist Melissa Crabtree told the <em>NYTimes<\/em>\u2018 reporter. \u201cBecause we learned a lot. We\u2019ve educated a whole lot of people \u2026 I think people are waking up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tag\/immigration-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">polls show<\/a>&nbsp;that Americans want to like immigrants and immigration. But the <a href=\"https:\/\/duckduckgo.com\/?q=site%3Abreitbart.com+neil+munro+lankford+Immigration&amp;atb=v302-1__&amp;ia=web\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bipartisan<\/a> federal government has exploited that openness since 1990 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tag\/extraction-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extract tens of millions of migrants<\/a> from poor countries <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/20\/census-biden-drives-up-foreign-born-population-across-swing-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to serve U.S. businesses<\/a> as workers, consumers, and renters. \u201cThe county of Garfield, in which Enid is the seat, was 94 percent white in 1980. Last year, that figure was about 68 percent,\u201d the <em>NYTimes<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>That economic strategy damages ordinary Americans\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/03\/12\/bloomberg-opts-h1bs-take-two-three-new-tech-jobs-each-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">career<\/a> opportunities, cuts their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/04\/08\/elite-academics-hide-amnesty-wage-pain-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wages,<\/a>&nbsp;and also raises their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/06\/16\/new-yorks-mayoral-rivals-vow-cheap-housing-plus-more-migrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The strategy also curbs Americans\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/07\/11\/president-trump-wins-big-on-secret-meatpacking-robots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">productivity<\/a>, shrinks their political <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com+%22john+binder%22+%22demographic+change%22&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS946US946&amp;oq=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com+%22john+binder%22+%22demographic+change%22&amp;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i58.10228j0j4&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">clout<\/a>, widens&nbsp;regional wealth&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/08\/13\/zuckerbergs-data-says-amnesty-gives-economic-windfall-coastal-democratic-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gaps<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/01\/survey-elite-imposed-migration-is-transforming-national-politics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">radicalizes<\/a>&nbsp;their democratic, compromise-promoting civic&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/search\/?s=%22white+supremacy%22#gsc.tab=0&amp;gsc.q=%22white%20supremacy%22&amp;gsc.page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">culture<\/a>, and allows elites to ignore&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Diseases_of_despair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">despairing Americans<\/a>&nbsp;at the&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JorgeAl49986803\/status\/1439791277571145737?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">bottom of society<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/03\/30\/harvard-harris-poll-5-in-6-americans-want-to-end-immigration-from-mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wide<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/01\/14\/poll-americans-want-companies-hire-americans-before-migrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">variety<\/a>&nbsp;of little-publicized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/04\/13\/ipsos-poll-nearly-8-in-10-americans-want-immigration-moratorium-for-u-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">polls<\/a>&nbsp;has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/08\/05\/poll-swing-voters-hugely-oppose-2020-democrats-promising-more-immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shown<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2020\/04\/24\/poll-trumps-opponents-applaud-his-jobs-for-americans-immigration-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deep<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2017\/01\/31\/poll-shows-public-support-trump-migration-poicy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">broad<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/05\/28\/business-poll-backfires-shows-public-wants-less-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposition<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/11\/16\/exit-polls-3-in-4-voters-want-less-immigration-during-and-after-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">labor migration<\/a>&nbsp;and the inflow of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/08\/06\/ipsos-poll-public-opposes-migrant-workers-by-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">temporary<\/a>&nbsp;contract workers&nbsp;into jobs sought by young U.S. graduates.
