I don\u2019t regret that.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Biden did not mention the fact that extensive talks featuring both the legitimate Afghan government &amp; the Taliban took place under President Trump in 2020, resulting in an agreement to withdraw all U.S. military servicemen from Afghanistan by May 1, 2021. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aJi5ZxBus9\">https:\/\/t.co\/aJi5ZxBus9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1387755519113408512?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 29, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Regarding the vice president\u2019s first assertion that Trump did not include the Afghan government in peace negotiations, as Breitbart News politics editor Matthew Boyle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/09\/13\/exclusive-secretary-pompeo-afghan-peace-talks-pathway-achieve-zero-u-s-forces-afghanistan\/\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;in September 2020, both \u201cAfghan government officials and Taliban leaders\u201d were present for the talks that set serious conditions on whether or not the United States would fully withdraw from the country by the spring of 2020:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><strong>Pompeo met with both parties as well as with Qatari leaders.<\/strong> These negotiations follow the Feb. 29 agreement between the United States and Taliban leaders that laid out the framework for U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, including most importantly a Taliban commitment not to harbor terrorists from groups like al-Qaeda, which they were doing when they were in power before and in the immediate aftermath of the 9\/11 terrorist attacks on the United States in 2001.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The <em>Washington Post<\/em> also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/asia_pacific\/afghanistan-taliban-peace-talks\/2020\/09\/11\/e06a598c-ddb4-11ea-b4f1-25b762cdbbf4_story.html\">reported<\/a> in September 2020 that \u201cthe Afghan government came face-to-face with Taliban leaders\u201d at the peace talks in Doha, Qatar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u201cThe launch of direct, formal talks between the two sides began with an opening ceremony featuring Secretary of State Mike Pompeo,\u201d the <em>Post<\/em> began.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17627090\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/aug-20-21-kabul-afghanistan-airport-us-marines-evacuation-withdrawal-ap.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17627090\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/aug-20-21-kabul-afghanistan-airport-us-marines-evacuation-withdrawal-ap.jpg\" alt=\"In this image provided by the U.S. Marine Corps, Marines assist with security at an evacuation control checkpoint during an evacuation at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, Friday, Aug. 20, 2021. Victor Mancilla\/U.S. Marine Corps via AP)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">While the Trump administration did aim to have all American troops pulled out by the spring of 2021, Kamala Harris failed to mention the weighty conditions put in place in order to meet that deadline. As former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Matthew Boyle aboard the U.S. Air Force jet returning from Qatar, the conditionality was \u201cthree-fold,\u201d requiring the Taliban to cease harboring terrorists, hold substantive talks with the Afghan government, and resist outside agitators.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The conditionality is really three-fold. One, there is an obligation they have with respect to foreign terrorist groups \u2014 primarily al-Qaeda, but all four terrorist groups \u2014 they are not permitted, and the language is very clear that they are not permitted and that they have to break with them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Second, they have to engage in these conversations in a way that is substantive and not just physically sit in the room, but they need to have serious conversations and begin to work their way through it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Then, third, they have a responsibility as part of that to ensure that outside actors don\u2019t act as spoilers for this, and there are many hands who would like to see this undone and would like to see America mired in Afghanistan for another 20 years. Both the Afghan government and the Taliban have a responsibility to prevent that.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Pompeo explicitly said that those conditions would be measured and monitored before the agreement could be met by the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u201cThose are the conditions, we\u2019ll measure them,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s a set of CT metrics that\u2019s pretty clearly laid out. We\u2019ll measure them and the president will make a decision if there\u2019s sufficient compliance to get us to zero. I think we\u2019re on a pathway to achieve that.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Joe Biden said \u201cthe buck stops with me\u201d and then proceeded to blame others for the catastrophic Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0dNV21N039\">https:\/\/t.co\/0dNV21N039<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1427443411414568965?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 17, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">President Biden also withdrew from Afghanistan<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2021\/3\/26\/22352204\/biden-afghanistan-press-conference-logistics-diplomacy\"> at a later date <\/a>than the one set forward in the agreement \u2013 when weather conditions would have severely hampered the Taliban takeover. As the left-of-center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2021\/3\/26\/22352204\/biden-afghanistan-press-conference-logistics-diplomacy\">Vox lamented<\/a> at the time:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Biden\u2019s predecessor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2020\/2\/21\/21147020\/us-afghanistan-taliban-peace-deal-pompeo\">Donald Trump made a deal with the Taliban<\/a>&nbsp;requiring all American service members to leave Afghanistan at the start of May.
