During their isolation, the girls devolve into <i>Lord of the Flies<\/i>-styled feral clans, some of whom even devolve into cannibalism.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Shauna (Sophie N\u00e9lisse), one of the teen girls, finds out she is pregnant days before being stranded in the northern wilderness, and in last week\u2019s episode, she and another one of the girls make ready to perform an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>In the episode, Shauna and Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) rip out the stiff underwire of a bra, sterilize it with a lighter, and then prepare to use it to end the life of Shauna\u2019s baby. But in those tense moments as the teens prepare to perpetrate the act, Shauna hesitates, crying, \u201cI don\u2019t want to die.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Slashfilm.com praised the scene saying, \u201cthis is the reality we\u2019re facing,\u201d and adding that the girl\u2019s situation is exactly what would happen if <i>Roe v. Wade<\/i> is repealed and abortion is made illegal in America. Of course, even if the ruling is reversed, it wouldn\u2019t automatically make all abortions illegal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShauna doesn\u2019t stop the abortion due to some moral quandary about the \u2018sanctity of life\u2019 or whatever other manipulative trash anti-choicers try to guilt people into believing. She stops because she finally realizes that following through with an unsafe abortion could kill her,\u201d blogger BJ Colangelo&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.slashfilm.com\/716355\/why-yellowjackets-portrayal-of-a-diy-abortion-is-so-important\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exclaims<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19270202\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/MV5BODRmYjYyODEtMDc0Mi00NTkzLTg2ZTktZmE3ZTdiNDRhODc4XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyOTA3MTMyOTk@._V1_FMjpg_UX1000_.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19270202\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/MV5BODRmYjYyODEtMDc0Mi00NTkzLTg2ZTktZmE3ZTdiNDRhODc4XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyOTA3MTMyOTk@._V1_FMjpg_UX1000_.jpg\" alt=\"A still from the ViacomCBS\/Showtime series &quot;Yellowjackets.&quot;\" width=\"1000\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Showtime<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWith <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> currently on the chopping block in America, this is the devastating reality we\u2019re facing,\u201d Colangelo writes, adding, \u201cThere are going to be a lot more Shaunas in the world, and a lot of them aren\u2019t going to have Taissas to comfort them, or be able to stop the procedure no matter how scared they are, and a lot of them are going to die.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The message of the Shauna subplot, according to this interpretation, is that America will return to back-alley abortions and \u201cwomen will die\u201d if <i>Roe v. Wade<\/i> is overturned. Planned Parenthood and others have spread this false talking point for decades.<\/p>\n<p>In March of 2019, for instance, then-PP President Leana Wen told WFAA of Dallas, \u201cBefore <i>Roe v. Wade<\/i>, thousands of women died every year \u2014 and because of extreme attacks on safe, legal abortion care, this could happen again right here in America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But an investigation into the claim by the left-leaning <i>Washington Post<\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2019\/05\/29\/planned-parenthoods-false-stat-thousands-women-died-every-year-before-roe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found<\/a> the \u201cthousands die a year\u201d claim to be false. Indeed, the very year that <i>Roe v Wade<\/i> was decided, the CDC only reported about 40 deaths from illegal abortions in the U.S. So, even during the year the ruling was handed down, the number of deaths was very low because of advances in medicine and hygiene.
