Never go to bed without making peace, otherwise there will be a \u2018cold war\u2019 the next day!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd this is dangerous because it initiatives a series of scolding, a series of resentments,\u201d he went on. \u201cHow many times, unfortunately, conflicts originate and grow within the domestic walls due to prolonged periods of silence and from unchecked selfishness!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes it even ends up in physical and moral violence,\u201d he declared. \u201cThis lacerates harmony and kills the family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All these pitfalls can be overcome by conversion from selfishness to favoring the other, the pope asserted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd please, each day, let us pray a little bit together \u2013 if you can make the effort \u2013 to ask God for the gift of peace,\u201d he concluded. \u201cAnd let us all commit ourselves \u2013 parents, children, Church, society \u2013 to sustain, defend and safeguard the family which is our treasure!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tdwilliamsrome?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @tdwilliamsrome<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ROME \u2014 Pope Francis launched an appeal on behalf of families Sunday, calling for greater efforts to overcome selfishness to preserve family unity.
