Ritchie Torres (D-NY). \u201cThe Biden Administration must do more to dismantle Donald Trump\u2019s regime of mass deportation and family separation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the presidential campaign, Biden had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/world-nation\/story\/2021-01-26\/judge-bars-biden-from-enforcing-100-day-deportation-ban\">vowed<\/a> to pause most deportations for 100 days if elected. However, U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton issued a temporary restraining order last week blocking the president&#8217;s directive after a lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton challenged its legality.<\/p>\n<p>As the AP notes, although Judge Tipton \u201cordered the Biden administration not to enforce\u201d the moratorium on deportations, \u201cthe ruling did not require the government to schedule them,\u201d and:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>It\u2019s unclear how many of those people are considered national security or public safety threats or had recently crossed the border illegally, the priority under new guidance issued to enforcement agencies by the Department of Homeland Security, which took effect Monday.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Some of the people put on the flights may have been expelled \u2014 which is a quicker process than deportation \u2014 under a public health order that former President Trump invoked amid the COVID-19 pandemic and that Biden has kept in place<\/em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2021-02-02\/biden-immigration-executive-orders-trump\">\u00a0but is ordering for review<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Friday, Judge Tipton said he would extend the order through Feb. 23.<\/p>\n<p>The recent deportees reportedly include a woman who witnessed the 2019 mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, which left 22 people dead. Because she fears for her safety in Juarez, Mexico, the woman is being identified by her first name, Rosa. An official with a nonprofit representing the woman claims she was pulled over last week while driving with a broken brake light, detained on previous traffic warrants, transferred to ICE, then deported before she could contact her attorney.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8 ACT NOW \ud83d\udea8 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/DMRS?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#DMRS<\/a> is demanding the immediate return of our client Rosa, a survivor of the El Paso Walmart Shooting, who was just deported to MX. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ReturnRosa?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ReturnRosa<\/a> <br \/>1\/5 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/g1a2EsV9cv\">pic.twitter.com\/g1a2EsV9cv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; dmrs_elpaso (@DMRS_ElPaso) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DMRS_ElPaso\/status\/1355690146163789824?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 31, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important that President Biden and Vice President Harris realize that, despite their very clear desires about how immigrants are treated, we continue to see on a local level immigrants being mistreated and disregarded,\u201d said Melissa Lopez, executive director of Diocesan Migrant &amp; Refugee Services, which represents Rosa.<\/p>\n<p>The El Paso County Sheriff\u2019s Office told the AP that ICE had issued a detainer to hold Rosa on immigration violations. The outlet examined jail records that confirmed Rosa was booked last Wednesday and released on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
