Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1236904093-e1640277293356-640x335-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Spain\u2019s Catalonia region is to impose a \u201cvery restrictive\u201d curfew in an attempt to reduce coronavirus cases, despite protests from the public prosecutor.<\/p>\n<p>A curfew is to be imposed in Catalonia, which has a strong independence movement and a broad degree of autonomy from Spain\u2019s central government in Madrid, from Thursday evening, with the aim of curbing the spread of the Chinese coronavirus.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>This is despite protests from the Catalan public prosecutor that not enough evidence has been given to justify the draconian restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes after a Spanish government announcement that mask-wearing would become compulsory outdoors across the entire country, despite many medical experts believing the measure to be largely ineffective.<\/p>\n<p>Initially announced on Monday, the curfew was approved on Thursday by Catalonia\u2019s High Court, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catalannews.com\/covid-19\/item\/high-court-approves-curfew-and-10-person-gatherings-over-christmas\">report<\/a> by CatalanNews.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>This is despite the region\u2019s public prosecutor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elperiodico.com\/es\/sociedad\/20211223\/decision-judicial-toque-de-queda-restricciones-coronavirus-13020177\">protesting<\/a> that the measures limit fundamental freedoms in a way that was not justified.<\/p>\n<p>A report from the prosecutor said that the measures passed by the High Court are \u201csevere, extensive, very restrictive, intense and generalized that have not been duly motivated, nor are they suitable, nor necessary for the intended purposes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The new curfew rules will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elperiodico.com\/es\/sociedad\/20211223\/decision-judicial-toque-de-queda-restricciones-coronavirus-13020177\">affect<\/a> parts of Catalonia with over 10,000 residents and a COVID-19 incidence rate of 250 per 100,000 residents \u2014 which is reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/news\/coronavirus\/2021\/1223\/1268337-coronavirus-global\/\">most<\/a> of the region.<\/p>\n<p>Those living in affected municipalities will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/omicron-surge-prompts-curfew-spains-catalonia-more-tests-madrid-2021-12-23\/\">forbidden<\/a> from leaving their homes between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Other restrictions include a limit to the capacity to the likes of restaurants and cultural venues, as well as to both religious and non-religious events.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>A ban on gatherings of more than ten people will also be put in place.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">W.H.O. Says Cancel Christmas Now or \u2018Grieve Later\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hlq7UeDipH\">https:\/\/t.co\/hlq7UeDipH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1473654567212511232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 22, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While the new rules regarding the curfew are expected to affect a total of&nbsp;125 municipalities in Catalonia, a new Spanish government <a href=\"https:\/\/english.elpais.com\/society\/2021-12-23\/outdoor-masking-in-spain-a-coronavirus-measure-thats-more-cosmetic-than-effective.html\">mandate<\/a> forcing the wearing of masks outdoors will affect the entire country.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the new restriction, Spain\u2019s socialist prime minister said that mask-wearing was \u201cfundamental to prevent[ing] infections\u201d, and that it was important \u201d to put into place the obligatory use of masks\u201d outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>However, a number of medical experts have slammed the decision, saying that the move is more \u201ccosmetic\u201d than functional, and that measure is a \u201csuperficial operation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I am alone on the street or two meters away from someone else am I going to get infected? No. Can masks in the street help to reduce infections?
