Public Schools announced Monday that it is participating in the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blacklivesmatteratschool.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Black Lives Matters at School<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Week of Action, a program that includes among its priorities &#8220;disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement&#8221; and allowing everyone \u2014 including elementary-aged students \u2014 to &#8220;choose their own gender.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In an email to parents obtained by The Daily Wire, the D.C. Public School district announced that it will be using critical race theory-based curricula to teach students about Black History Month. The email linked to resources from Teaching Tolerance, which is a branch of the activist Southern Poverty Law Center network, and a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cL_MrAeio7g&amp;feature=youtu.be\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from D.C. public school teachers explaining the importance of &#8220;anti-racism&#8221; activism.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The district\u2019s platform is centered around Black Lives Matter\u2019s \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcareaeducators4socialjustice.org\/black-lives-matter\/13-guiding-principles\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">13 Guiding Principles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d which calls for queer and transgender affirmation and &#8220;restorative justice,&#8221; among other priorities. The guide calls for the dismantling of the \u201cpatriarchal practice\u201d of requiring mothers to parent their children while also participating in \u201cjustice work.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The guide also asks the school district to commit itself to \u201cBlack Villages,\u201d which calls for the &#8220;disruption&#8221; of the idea of the nuclear family and refers to children as communal children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and \u2018villages\u2019 that collectively care for one another,\u201d the guide <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcareaeducators4socialjustice.org\/black-lives-matter\/13-guiding-principles\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">reads<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u201cEspecially \u2018our\u2019 children.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two versions of the guide are also available for children. One version comes in written form, the second is a printable coloring book that reiterates the guiding principles with pictures and prompts to discuss the principles. Public School\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcareaeducators4socialjustice.org\/black-lives-matter-week-action\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">platform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for Black History Month asks educators to reflect on their working relationship with \u201cantiracist pedagogy and abolitionist practice.\u201d Both of these theories are rooted in critical race theory (CRT), which claims America is irredeemably rooted in racism. The platform also asks teachers to center their classrooms around &#8220;black lives.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teachers were also given a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blacklivesmatteratschool.com\/updates-and-info\/announcing-the-new-black-lives-matter-at-school-year-of-purpose\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">list<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of self-reflection questions. One reflection asked teachers to examine in what ways their practices \u201cerase the histories\u201d of minority students and \u201cprevent [students] from bringing their whole selves into the learning environment.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blacklivesmatteratschool.com\/updates-and-info\/announcing-the-new-black-lives-matter-at-school-year-of-purpose\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">instructions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for teachers included asking them to wear Black Lives Matter t-shirts on the first day of school as well as posting a video to social media \u2014 specifically Twitter \u2014 affirming the teachings of Black Lives Matter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The District of Columbia\u2019s Education Chancellor, who approved the curricula, did not respond to requests for comment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
