And that\u2019s why we\u2019re asking people to come forward and acknowledge those symptoms, because that\u2019s the point at which they\u2019re vulnerable and the point at which they expose themselves to others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dr. Sills says the NFL has not seen asymptomatic people spreading COVID throughout the facility. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DBEusaxSIg\">pic.twitter.com\/DBEusaxSIg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Judy Battista (@judybattista) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/judybattista\/status\/1474100898175541252?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 23, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NFL was forced to move three week-15 games due to COVID-19 outbreaks, which resulted in a more targeted testing approach, and \u201cstringent symptom screening\u201d before team members enter team facilities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think all of our concern about [asymptomatic spread] has been going down based on what we\u2019ve been seeing throughout the past several months,\u201d Sills <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/32930584\/data-shows-asymptomatic-individuals-not-spreading-covid-19-nfl-chief-medical-officer-says\">told<\/a> ESPN. \u201cWe\u2019ve got our hands full with symptomatic people. Can I tell you tonight that there has never been a case when someone without symptoms passed it on to someone else? No, of course I can\u2019t say that. But what I can say to you is that I think it\u2019s a very, very tiny fraction of the overall problem, if it exists at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly if you want to look at the overall pattern and concern about transmission, it is not being driven by people who have no idea that they are infected and they are infecting scores of others. This is being driven by people with symptoms and the exposures during that symptomatic period.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The newly updated protocols allow for players to return to the field in a shorter period of time, focusing on the CT value of a player \u2014 which measures whether a player is still contagious \u2014 instead of the previous rule which required vaccinated players to return two negative tests 24 hours apart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsymptomatic transmission inside our facilities just didn\u2019t fit with what we were seeing,\u201d Sills <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/32930584\/data-shows-asymptomatic-individuals-not-spreading-covid-19-nfl-chief-medical-officer-says\">said<\/a> to ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce it replicates enough to cause you to have symptoms,\u201d he added, \u201cnow there\u2019s enough there for us to say that you\u2019re going to be shedding it out in a live form to infect someone else. It\u2019s really a matter of degree of how strongly we think you may be infected. You have to get to a point where you\u2019re infected enough that you\u2019re beginning to shed active viral particles, and that usually correlates with the onset of symptoms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFL has two games scheduled for Christmas Day, with the Cleveland Browns traveling to Lambeau Field to play the Green Bay Packers, and the Arizona Cardinals welcoming the Indianapolis Colts to Glendale, Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Morgan is the Sports Reporter for The Daily Wire.
