Meanwhile, a record-high pandemic of overdose deaths has swept across America, largely without comment from the Biden administration \u2014 perhaps because the president\u2019s policies have worsened the death toll.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>From May 2020 to May 2021, America reached a deadly milestone: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nvss\/vsrr\/drug-overdose-data.htm\">100,255 Americans died of drug overdoses<\/a>, the first time more than 100,000 people died in such a way. By comparison, there were about half as many overdose deaths (57,252) in May 2016. Much of the interim increase is driven by the stream of fentanyl flooding across America\u2019s uncontrolled southern border. Fentanyl or other synthetic opioids are involved in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/health-news\/articles\/2021-12-14\/u-s-fentanyl-deaths-soaring-especially-in-west\">64%<\/a> of all overdoses, according to the CDC. Over the same period, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized twice as much fentanyl \u2014 which is between&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dea.gov\/factsheets\/fentanyl\">80 and 100 times stronger<\/a>&nbsp;than morphine \u2014 than it did last year.<\/p>\n<p>An amount as small as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dea.gov\/resources\/facts-about-fentanyl\">two milligrams<\/a> of fentanyl could cause a deadly overdose. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/drug-seizure-statistics\">11,201 pounds<\/a> of fentanyl seized by CBP agents in Fiscal Year 2021 could kill 2.5 billion people \u2014 or approximately one-third of the 7.9 billion people on planet Earth. Agents have seized yet <em>another<\/em> 2,158 pounds of fentanyl since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2022, which began in October \u2014 more than enough to kill every single American citizen.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as little surprise that in the last year, fentanyl has exceeded traffic accidents and suicides as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/fentanyl-overdose-deaths-biggest-killer\">leading killer<\/a>of young people between the ages of 18 and 45, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1S0szR2Ua9v0Sr91YhDD7gPrXsDkHxDvP\/view\">analysis<\/a> of CDC data performed by the nonprofit group Families Against Fentanyl. A total of 78,795 people died from fentanyl overdoses in two years, the group reported: 37,208 in 2020 and 41,587 in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Many of those deaths have come from a new source: counterfeit prescription drugs laced with fentanyl. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) released its first public safety alert in six years this September to warn about the problem. The DEA has seized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dea.gov\/press-releases\/2021\/12\/16\/dea-reveals-criminal-drug-networks-are-flooding-us-deadly-fentanyl\">20.4 million<\/a> fentanyl-laced, imitation prescription pills so far this year, reporting that \u201c32 cases [of fentanyl-laced prescription pills] have direct ties to the major Mexican drug networks that are mass-producing and distributing fentanyl.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMexican criminal drug networks are harnessing the perfect drug trafficking tool: social media applications that are available on every smartphone,\u201d said DEA Administrator Anne Milgram in a press release. \u201cThey are using these platforms to flood our country with fentanyl. The ease with which drug dealers can operate on social media and other popular smartphone apps is fueling our [n]ation\u2019s unprecedented overdose epidemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet the problem goes well beyond prescription drugs. This year, officials have discovered traces of fentanyl in a growing number of narcotics \u2014 including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxxv.com\/cdc-fentanyl-overdoses-now-leading-cause-of-death-for-americans-aged-18-to-45\">heroin, cocaine, and marijuana<\/a>. Between July and November, <a href=\"https:\/\/newyork.cbslocal.com\/2021\/11\/22\/connecticut-fentanyl-marijuana-confirmed\/\">39 people<\/a> in the state of Connecticut overdosed from marijuana that secretly contained tiny specks of fentanyl. While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/going-green-the-physical-mental-and-emotional-problems-associated-with-marijuana\">marijuana carries mental and physical health risks<\/a>, overdose was virtually unheard of, until the narcotic is married to fentanyl.<\/p>\n<p>Fentanyl\u2019s journey to America begins in its country of origin \u2014 frequently China or India \u2014 then comes to Mexico, where transnational criminal gangs assemble it into pills or courier it across the border in powder form. A border wall or stricter border enforcement would curtail some of the surge, but President Biden has made it substantially easier for illegal cargo, and illegal aliens, to cross the border.<\/p>\n<p>Border Patrol agents encountered a record-breaking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/readers-pass-5-stories-the-legacy-media-ignored-this-month-november-2021\">1,734,686 illegal immigrants<\/a> at the southern border during Fiscal year 2021 \u2014 and another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/southwest-land-border-encounters\">173,620<\/a> illegal immigrants in November. That\u2019s more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/assets\/documents\/2021-Aug\/U.S.%20Border%20Patrol%20Monthly%20Encounters%20%28FY%202000%20-%20FY%202020%29%20%28508%29.pdf\">twice as many<\/a> as the previous November record (78,587 in November 2000). Worse yet, that number does not include <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/juliorosas\/2021\/12\/15\/data-from-cbp-shows-how-many-illegal-immigrants-have-been-able-to-get-away-during-ongoing-crisis-n2600626\">273,112 \u201cgotaways\u201d<\/a> from January through September 2021, according to data Townhall.com obtained from the CBP from a Freedom of Information Act request. \u201cThose numbers are bulls**t \u2014 they are way low,\u201d Mark Morgan, acting commissioner of CBP during the Trump administration, told Townhall.com. \u201cBy the end of December, it will be 600,000 \u2018gotaways.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the surge in border crossings, President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/how-joe-biden-effectively-ended-deportations\">Biden\u2019s policies cut deportations by 90%<\/a> over pre-pandemic levels \u2014 and that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trafficked-how-joe-bidens-open-border-policies-have-fueled-americas-fentanyl-epidemic\">decision carries national consequences<\/a>. While the fentanyl surge begins at the U.S. border with Mexico, it quickly metastasizes through the entire nation, as transnational drug traffickers pump fentanyl through the nation\u2019s arteries. In all, 45 states experienced more deaths by overdose this year than last year; most seeing double-digit increases.
