Some countries have canceled public celebrations of either Christmas or New Year\u2019s (or both). (MOHD RASFAN\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cMass New Year gatherings will be banned and those attending private New Year and Christmas celebrations must undergo COVID-19 [Chinese coronavirus] self-tests,\u201d Malaysian Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/malaysia-imposes-stricter-rules-booster-requirements-over-omicron-threat-2021-12-16\/\">announced<\/a> on December 16.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Czech Republic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Czech Republic\u2019s government <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-health-europe-3e80a8498f9856ecb4c4317291f3fe98\">declared<\/a> a 30-day state of emergency on November 26 over the Chinese coronavirus. The edict banned the operation of all Christmas markets across the country and prohibited people from drinking alcohol in public places. (Jeff J Mitchell\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s government has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-59746201\">banned<\/a> all large-scale New Year celebrations in the country on December 31, 2021.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Scotland First Minister Nicola Ferguson Sturgeon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10332869\/Sturgeon-CANCELS-Hogmanay-Omicron-fears.html\">announced<\/a> a series of social gathering restrictions for all of Scotland on December 21 that will take effect starting on December 27. Sturgeon said her administration\u2019s \u201cofficial advice for Christmas Day remains unchanged, with people allowed to meet with family but urged to be cautious,\u201d the U.K.\u2019s <em>Daily Mail<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut from December 26 for three weeks there will be attendance limits placed on live public events which will torpedo Hogmanay [Scottish New Year] festivities,\u201d the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Canada<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The government of Canada\u2019s Ontario province <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/toronto\/covid-19-ontario-dec-17-2021-omicron-cases-1.6289571\">reintroduced<\/a> social gathering limits for an indefinite amount of time starting on December 19. The edict included a ban on <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ctvnews.ca\/dance-parties-and-protests-in-quebec-on-eve-of-covid-19-restrictions-taking-effect-1.5713457\">dancing<\/a> and singing in the province \u2014 except for \u201cworkers or performers\u201d \u2014 and a prohibition on the sale of alcohol after 10:00 p.m. Ontario Premier Doug Ford <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10324019\/Ontario-cuts-outdoor-limit-100-25-indoor-limit-25-people-10-amid-Omicron-fears.html\">reduced<\/a> the number of people allowed to gather socially both indoors (from 25 to 10) and outdoors (from 100 to 25).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOmicron will not take a holiday,\u201d Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Kieran Moore told reporters on December 17 when announcing the new restrictions. (LEX VAN LIESHOUT\/ANP\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The government of the Netherlands on December 14 announced it would <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-business-health-europe-netherlands-47c9f5101d1c1f505c0b821b48102f69\">extend<\/a> a nationwide coronavirus lockdown \u2014 in place since November 28 \u2014 through January 14.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is of course not the good news you hope for at Christmas time,\u201d Netherlands Caretaker Prime Minister Mark Rutte told the Dutch public during a nationally televised news conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo yes, a disappointing but perhaps not very big surprise,\u201d he added, referring to the lockdown extension.<\/p>\n<p>Holland\u2019s November 28 partial lockdown restricted social gatherings to 13 people and imposed a 5:00 p.m. curfew on all bars, restaurants, cinemas, and sports venues. Essential shops such as grocery stores were ordered to close by 8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Rutte shocked Nederlanders on the evening of December 18 when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/netherlands-starts-painful-christmas-coronavirus-lockdown-2021-12-19\/\">announced<\/a> a separate, snap lockdown for the entire country that would further <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10323629\/EVERYONE-entering-EU-PCR-test-says-European-Commission-President.html\">tighten<\/a> gathering restrictions from December 19 until at least January 14. The last-minute lockdown order \u201cleft people\u2019s Christmas plans in disarray,\u201d Reuters reported on December 19 after observing Dutch urban centers left \u201clargely deserted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mandate bans groups greater than two people from gathering outdoors. All businesses deemed non-essential by the Dutch federal government \u2014 including restaurants, museums, hair salons, and gyms \u2014 must close.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Portugal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Portugal\u2019s government will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2021\/12\/21\/covid-19-spike-felt-across-europe-as-vaccination-remains-stagnant\">limit<\/a> citizens\u2019 movement from December 25 until at least January 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople will need to test negative for the [corona]virus to access cinemas, theatres, sports events, weddings and baptisms,\u201d Euro News reported. \u201cOn Christmas and New Year\u2019s, people will need a negative test result to access restaurants and public celebrations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn New Year\u2019s Eve, no more than 10 people can gather in the street, and drinking alcohol outdoors will be prohibited,\u201d according to the news site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Germany<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19245970\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1237305305.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19245970\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1237305305.jpg\" alt=\"People are seen wearing face masks as they walk at a Christmas market in the city of Cologne, western Germany, on December 18, 2021. (INA FASSBENDER\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Germany\u2019s government will limit private gatherings to \u201ca maximum of 10 people who have been vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 [Chinese coronavirus]\u201d starting December 28.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn cases when an unvaccinated person is present, only one other household would be able to attend. The new capacity limits will apply to both indoor and outdoor celebrations,\u201d Euro News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/omicron-germany-to-limit-private-gatherings-after-christmas\/a-60206476\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The restrictions include a ban on spectators at \u201csporting events, cultural shows, concerts and other large public events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFireworks will also be banned for New Year\u2019s Eve celebrations, and night clubs will also be required to close across the country,\u201d according to the news site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>France<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Paris announced on December 18 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/france\/20211218-paris-cancels-new-year-s-eve-firework-display-over-omicron-fears\">cancelation<\/a> of a planned fireworks display and series of concerts slated to take place on the famous avenue Champs-Elys\u00e9es on New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Norway<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Norway has <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-business-lifestyle-health-europe-ee281cbd3dab88ea212b976a16330923\">limited<\/a> gatherings at private homes to ten people under a coronavirus measure lasting from December 9 to January 6, though the country\u2019s government said it will increase this number to 20 on Christmas and New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Latvia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Latvia\u2019s government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schengenvisainfo.com\/news\/travelling-to-latvia-during-covid-19-what-you-need-to-know\/\">declared<\/a> a three-month coronavirus state of emergency on October 11 that will last through January 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot more than 10 persons will be allowed to gather for private events. Up to 20 persons are allowed to gather for an outdoor event,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfa.gov.lv\/en\/article\/state-emergency-and-epidemiological-safety-measures-latvia?utm_source=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F\">notice<\/a> issued by Latvia\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly vaccinated people or people recovered from COVID-19 [Chinese coronavirus] are allowed to take part in public events,\u201d the notice reads.<\/p>\n<p>People unvaccinated against the Chinese coronavirus must attend religious ceremonies \u201cindividually \u2026 if at least 15 m2 [square meters] of publicly available space is ensured per person and face masks are worn,\u201d the Latvian government stipulates.<\/p>\n<p>Unvaccinated persons may visit houses of worship for no more than 15 minutes at a time and they are barred from attending church services along with vaccinated parishioners or people who can prove they recently recovered from the Chinese coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The number of participants in \u201ccultural events\u201d in Latvia during the state of emergency is limited to 60 percent of a venue\u2019s capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe maximum number of visitors permitted at a cultural event is 500,\u201d according to the Latvian Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Latvia\u2019s government has \u201cforbidden\u201d businesses from providing \u201ceconomic in-person services related to entertainment, gambling, betting and attractions (including in water parks, entertainment and amusement centres, trampoline parks),\u201d during the emergency period.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iceland<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19245962\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1236912390.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19245962\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1236912390.jpg\" alt=\"People take photos of an illuminated cat sculpture in a snow-covered park in downtown Reykjavik on November 29, 2021. - The new Christmas beer made from green peas and marinated red cabbage is a hit in Iceland this festive season. Garda World <a href=\"https:\/\/www.garda.com\/crisis24\/news-alerts\/557701\/iceland-authorities-maintaining-covid-19-entry-and-domestic-restrictions-as-of-dec-17-update-26\">predicted<\/a> at the time the limitations on Icelandic businesses would remain in place \u201cfor the next two weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrivate gatherings are limited to 50 people,\u201d according to the security firm. \u201cPublic events can host up to 500 people, providing attendees can provide evidence of a negative PCR test result from the previous 48 hours or proof of recovery from COVID-19 [Chinese coronavirus] in the previous 180 days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFacemasks are mandatory in enclosed public spaces and wherever social distancing of 1 meter (3 feet) cannot be maintained,\u201d Garda World noted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Indonesia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndonesia is currently implementing a more restrictive form of lockdown wherein non-essential and non-critical commercial activities are not allowed,\u201d according to a December 13 coronavirus <a href=\"https:\/\/indonesien.ahk.de\/infothek\/news\/news-details\/covid-19-developments-in-indonesia\">notice<\/a> issued by the German-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EKONID).<\/p>\n<p>On the Indonesian islands of Java and Bali, restaurants and shopping malls are expected to reduce their open hours and operate at limited capacity during the winter holiday season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAuthorities have extended public activity restrictions (PPKM) in Java and Bali through at least January 3,\u201d GardaWorld <a href=\"https:\/\/www.garda.com\/crisis24\/news-alerts\/556386\/indonesia-authorities-extend-covid-19-restrictions-in-java-and-bali-through-at-least-jan-3-update-94\">reported<\/a> on December 15.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPPKM remain in effect for other parts of the country through at least December 23, but further extensions are likely,\u201d the Canadian private security firm predicted.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia\u2019s federal government will ban people aged 17 years old and up from traveling domestically between December 24 and January 2 if they are not vaccinated against the Chinese coronavirus, according to Garda World. Indonesia\u2019s Transport Ministry currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/12\/22\/jab-stand-in-indonesian-man-says-he-has-taken-14-coronavirus-shots-for-other-people\/\">requires<\/a> all people in the country to present proof of Chinese coronavirus vaccination to travel between the archipelago\u2019s various regions and islands.
