A&nbsp; drug sniffing dog led the police to find narcotics in his car during a traffic stop.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen officers searched Lesane\u2019s car, they located a small hidden area underneath the driver\u2019s floorboard that contained several bags of drugs, including more than 20 grams of a substance containing fentanyl,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-mdfl\/pr\/fort-myers-fentanyl-dealer-sentenced-thirteen-years-federal-prison\"> authorities<\/a> for the Middle District of Florida noted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The more than a decade long prison sentence comes as fentanyl overdoses became the leading cause of death in 2020 for those between the ages of 18 and 45.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a national emergency. America\u2019s young adults \u2014 thousands of unsuspecting Americans \u2014 are being poisoned,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/fentanyl-overdoses-leading-cause-death-adults\">stated<\/a> James Rauh of Families Against Fentanyl. \u201cIt is widely known that illicit fentanyl is driving the massive spike in drug-related deaths. A new approach to this catastrophe is needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Families against Fentanyl <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FafFentanyl\/status\/1471274817290752006?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1471274817290752006%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Ffentanyl-deaths-skyrocket-becoming-nations-leading-killer-for-adults-age-18-45\">argues<\/a> that the drug should be classified as a \u201cWMD\u201d and claims that a large amount of the illicit fentanyl that is in America originates outside of the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Customs and Border Protection often seize large amounts of fentanyl at the U.S. Southern Border. On Wednesday, the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/local-media-release\/cbp-officers-seize-over-600k-methamphetamine-hidalgo-international\">announced<\/a> that they had stopped the transportation over the border of a cocaine and fentanyl-laced gift-wrapped brick worth up to $80,000 dollars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The seizure happened during a vehicle inspection at the Big Bend Sector near Sierra Blanca, Texas. Three U.S. citizens were arrested for narcotics smuggling after a Border Patrol dog smelled something suspicious in their vehicle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgents searched the vehicle and discovered a clear plastic bag containing marijuana,\u201d the agency noted. \u201cA further search of the vehicle revealed Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) oil-laced edibles and a vacuum sealed white powdery brick that tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One state that has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkbn.com\/news\/ohio\/cocaine-fentanyl-seizures-up-in-ohio-this-year\/\">seen<\/a> fentanyl seizures double since 2020 is Ohio, where police have already confiscated more than $40 million of drugs, including 187 pounds of fentanyl. At least one authority believes that much of this fentanyl has been coming directly from Mexico.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s concerning because they\u2019re skipping the middle man and coming directly to the Valley, and that\u2019s what we\u2019ve seen as a seizure increase within the Mahoning Valley,\u201d said Larry McLaughlin, in charge of the Mahoning Valley Drug Task Force.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some in Congress have attempted to stop illicit fentanyl coming from China and Mexico. Sen.
