Democrats also control ten out of twelve of New Jersey\u2019s congressional districts.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: here\u2019s the new NJ congressional map that throws <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NJ07?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NJ07<\/a> Rep. The New Jersey Supreme Court then designates a final member who acts as a tiebreaker.<\/p>\n<p>Former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice John Wallace Jr. cast the tie-breaking vote in Wednesday\u2019s 7-6 decision to approve the map submitted by Democrats. Wallace, a registered Democrat, voted with Democrats because the Republicans drew last decade\u2019s map.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIn the end, I decided to vote with the Democratic map simply because in the last redistricting, the map was drawn by Republicans,\u201d Wallace&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/586996-new-jersey-redistricting-commission-accepts-democrats-proposed-map\">said<\/a>. \u201cDemocrats should have the opportunity to have their map used in the next redistricting cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wallace\u2019s decision saw backlash from New Jersey Republicans, who said Wallace acted as the commission\u2019s \u201cseventh Democrat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/12\/22\/new-jersey-redistricting-map-malinowski-525983\">criticized<\/a>&nbsp;Sam Wang, who served as an adviser to Wallace. Republican redistricting chair Doug Steinhardt called attention to a 2018&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SamWangPhD\/status\/1037161188285665281?s=20\">tweet<\/a>&nbsp;in which Wang said, \u201cit seems likely that between one-third and one-half of current Trump supporters meet a reasonable definition of racist.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It seems likely that between one-third and one-half of current Trump supporters meet a reasonable definition of racist. Both Rep. Josh Gottheimer\u2019s (D-NJ) and Rep. Mike Sherrill\u2019s (D-NJ) districts shed conservative areas. Gottheimer\u2019s seat&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redistrict\/status\/1473688735216713728\">moved<\/a>&nbsp;from Biden +5 to Biden +12, while Sherrill\u2019s seat went from Biden +7 to Biden +17. Additionally, Rep. Malinowski\u2019s (D-NJ) seat. As a result, Malinowski\u2019s seat went from Biden +10 to Biden +4.<\/p>\n<p>Malinowski narrowly defeated Republican state Sen. Tom Kean Jr. in the 2020 election. Additionally, he underwent a House Ethics Committee investigation for his stock trading late reports. These facts made Malinowski a vulnerable target for the Democrats on the redistricting commission.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Jeff Van Drew\u2019s (R-NJ) district became more conservative, which is good news for the lawmaker who made national headlines when he switched parties from Democrat to Republican in 2019. Dave Wasserman&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redistrict\/status\/1473694981609213969\">explained<\/a>&nbsp;that the district moved from Trump +3 to Trump +5, \u201c likely nuking any chance Dems have of defeating him.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Another winner in this map: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NJ02?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NJ02<\/a> Rep.
