Kathy Hochul (D), the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-signs-legislation-improve-state-response-covid-19-pandemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cTruth in Vaccination\u201d law<\/a>&nbsp;will make \u201cfaking a vaccination card a&nbsp;class A misdemeanor and&nbsp;tampering with computer records related to vaccinations a class E felony,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/587162-falsifying-vaccination-card-now-a-crime-with-possible-1-year-jail?rl=1\">The Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>New Yorkers convicted of violating the new law could face up to one year in prison or three years of probation, while class E felonies carry the potential of up to four years in prison in the state.<\/p>\n<p>In a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-signs-legislation-improve-state-response-covid-19-pandemic\"> statement<\/a>, Hochul declared that the new law will:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u2026help us improve our response to the pandemic now, crack down on fraudulent use of vaccination records, and help us better understand the areas of improvement we need to make to our health care system so we can be even more prepared down the road.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe need to make sure we learn the lessons of the pandemic so we don\u2019t make the same mistakes twice,\u201d the governor asserted.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Various New York <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-signs-legislation-improve-state-response-covid-19-pandemic\">lawmakers shared<\/a> Hochul\u2019s enthusiasm for the new law, hailing it as a necessary step in the fight against the omicron variant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s never been more urgent that we protect this process from fraud so that the health and safety of the public isn\u2019t compromised by bad actors using fraudulent vaccination cards or passports,\u201d said State Senator Anna Kaplan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2018Truth in Vaccination\u2019 law will serve as a strong deterrent to prevent people from lying about their vaccination status, protecting public health, and ensuring our economic recovery can move forward,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new law will undoubtedly help prosecutors and other law enforcement hold people accountable for the damage they are doing to public health by undermining the efficacy of vaccination requirements,\u201d said Assemblymember Jeffrey Dinowitz.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, a South Carolina nurse was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/584343-south-carolina-nurse-charged-for-allegedly-making-fake-vaccine-cards\">indicted<\/a> for allegedly forging false vaccination cards and faces up to 15 years in prison.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People who falsify their vaccination cards to bypass the passport system in the state of New York could face up to one year in jail, according to new legislation.
