Tom&nbsp;O\u2019Halleran\u2019s (D-AZ) reelection chances after his district was altered to favor a Republican candidate.<\/p>\n<p>States go through the redistricting process every ten years, after the census data is released. The bipartisan Arizona panel of commissioners \u2014 two Democrats, two Republicans, and an independent chair \u2013 voted unanimously to implement the new maps, which favor Republicans.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p><em>Politico<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/22\/gop-could-control-6-arizona-9-congressional-seats-redistricting\/\">reported<\/a> that the newly drawn maps could potentially allow six of the nine districts to be won by Republicans in 2022, whereas the Democrats currently control five of the nine seats.<\/p>\n<p>An analysis of the new first district, based on the 2020 presidential election results from Bloomberg Government, <a href=\"https:\/\/about.bgov.com\/news\/arizonas-new-congressional-map-could-lead-to-gop-gains-in-2022\/\">showed<\/a> that the new map brings&nbsp;O\u2019Halleran\u2019s chances of winning reelection in the district down significantly. The analysis showed that the district, which President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. won with a slim margin of 50 to 48 percent, would now have former President Donald Trump winning with a 53 to 45 percent margin in the district.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Halleran, a former Republican turned Democrat, won reelection in 202o&nbsp;with 52 percent of the votes, which was only slightly better than Biden\u2019s margin.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>This could be detrimental for the congressman since he has reportedly supported Biden and&nbsp;House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s (D-CA) partisan agenda the majority of the time. He has supported&nbsp;Biden\u2019s&nbsp;positions <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/biden-congress-votes\/tom-ohalleran\/\">100 percent<\/a> and voted with Pelosi&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/represent\/members\/P000197-nancy-pelosi\/compare-votes\/O000171-tom-o&#039;halleran\/116\">98 percent<\/a> of the time.<\/p>\n<p>Some of those partisan agenda items include the $1.2 trillion, 2,702-page&nbsp;so-called&nbsp;bipartisan infrastructure bill earlier this year&nbsp;\u2014 which Biden already signed into law \u2014 and the&nbsp;$1.75 trillion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/19\/house-passes-behemoth-build-back-better-act\/\">Build Back Better Act<\/a>&nbsp;(BBB) \u2014 also&nbsp;known as the Democrats\u2019 reconciliation infrastructure bill.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;BBB was considered to be the \u201cmarquee legislation\u201d of Biden\u2019s legislative agenda and would have ultimately&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/11\/12\/bidens-build-back-better-will-raise-taxes-on-30-of-middle-class-families\/?utm_medium=SocialFlow&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_source=NYPTwitter\">increased<\/a> taxes on the middle class, expanded and prolonged the effects of inflation \u2014 &nbsp;which recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/23\/economy\/us-inflation-pce-incomes-november\/index.html\">hit<\/a> a nearly four-decade high \u2014 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/18\/cbo-build-back-better-act-adds-750-billion-to-deficit-over-five-years\/\">added<\/a> hundreds of billions of dollars to the U.S. deficit. But it was effectively killed by&nbsp;Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) this past weekend when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/19\/joe-manchin-to-oppose-4-91-trillion-build-back-better-act-effectively-killing-bill\/\">told<\/a>&nbsp;<em>Fox News Sunday,&nbsp;<\/em>\u201cI cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation \u2026 I can\u2019t get there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Halleran will have to choose between running for reelection in a now solidly red district or retiring. National Republican Congressional Committee spokeswoman Torunn Sinclair said, \u201cIf O\u2019Halleran\u2019s smart, he\u2019ll retire now instead of losing in 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
