He added that the \u201cspirit of God\u201d is an important part of the film.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe spirit of God is throughout the film,\u201d Washington told RNS after admitting that he often led prayer circles on the set. \u201cCharles is an angel. I\u2019m a believer. Dana\u2019s a believer. So that was a part of every decision, hopefully, that I tried to make. I wanted to please God, and I wanted to please Charles, and I wanted to please Dana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The movie stars Michael B. Jordan as real-life Iraq war veteran Army Sergeant Charles Monroe King, who was killed in action in 2006. His wife,&nbsp; <i>New York Times<\/i> writer Dana Canedy, wrote an article about a journal King wrote that he left behind for their son that detailed the fallen soldier\u2019s his deep faith. Canedy\u2019s article was eventually reworked into the book that forms the basis for the film that Washington signed on to direct.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Watch below:&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Washington, who noted that he helped build the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, also told RNS that he is very mindful about putting God first in his life and work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI try to make sure I try to put God first in everything. I was reading something this morning in my meditation about selfishness and how the only way to true independence is complete dependence on the Almighty,\u201d the <i>Malcolm X<\/i> star said.<\/p>\n<p>Washington has been increasingly outspoken about spiritual issues in recent years. In September, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/09\/24\/denzel-washington-to-christian-mens-conference-pray-daily-listen-to-god-remember-strength-and-leadership-are-gods-gift-to-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> a crowd at a Christian men\u2019s conference to pray daily, \u201clisten to God,\u201d and remember that \u201cstrength and leadership\u201d are \u201cGod\u2019s gift to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A few months earlier, The <i>Training Day<\/i> star also blasted people who attack the police and soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have the utmost respect for what they do, for what our soldiers do, [people] that sacrifice their lives. I just don\u2019t care for people who put those kind of people down.
