We, of course, knew that there would be additional variants at some point coming. We didn\u2019t know what they would look like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">DOOCY TIME: &#8220;So why is the President saying about this new variant, &#8216;nobody saw it coming, nobody in the world&#8217; if that&#8217;s not true.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Psaki: &#8220;Well first, I would say that nobody saw \u2014 knew that there would be the number of different variants.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lnyBawHVFh\">pic.twitter.com\/lnyBawHVFh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CurtisHouck\/status\/1474068810982383624?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 23, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fauci said earlier this week that health officials \u201cdefinitely saw variants coming\u201d in response to comments made by Vice President Kamala Harris during a recent interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t see Delta coming. I think most scientists did not \u2014 upon whose advice and direction we have relied \u2014 didn\u2019t see Delta coming,\u201d Harris told the Los Angeles Times in an interview. \u201cWe didn\u2019t see Omicron coming. And that\u2019s the nature of what this, this awful virus has been, which as it turns out, has mutations and variants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2021-12-17\/kamala-harris-in-interview-says-administration-did-not-anticipate-omicron-variant\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>President Biden celebrated \u201cindependence\u201d from the virus in an upbeat July 4 speech, saying, \u201cWhile the virus hasn\u2019t been vanquished, we know this: It no longer controls our lives. It no longer paralyzes our nation. And it\u2019s within our power to make sure it never does again.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>At the time, some public health experts warned that his optimism was premature, given that the Delta variant was already a significant threat. Harris denied that the administration declared victory prematurely, or ever.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not been victorious over it,\u201d Harris added. \u201cI don\u2019t think that in any regard anyone can claim victory when, you know, there are 800,000 people who are dead because of this virus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci responded to Harris\u2019 remarks during an interview on Sunday on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe definitely saw variants coming,\u201d Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/fauci-variants-omicron-mutations-unprecedented\">said<\/a>.&nbsp;\u201cWhat was not anticipated was the extent of the mutations in the amino acid substitutions in omicron, which was really unprecedented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci warned this week against going to large holiday gatherings. \u201cThere are many of these parties that have 30, 40, 50 people in which you do not know the vaccination status of individuals,\u201d Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/fauci-large-holiday-gatherings-not-safe-897cd7d8-f1fc-4b74-b3ab-87aa3aad54be.html\">said<\/a>. \u201cThose are the kind of functions in the context of Omicron that you do not want to go to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked at the start of the week if he thought that there would be a point at which people did not need to wear masks on airplanes, Fauci said no.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think so,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/week-transcript-12-12-21-dr-anthony-fauci\/story?id=81833124\">said<\/a>. \u201cI think when you\u2019re dealing with a closed space, even though the filtration is good, that you want to go that extra step.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
