Some viewers, however, are not thrilled that producers chose Clayton Echard as the leading man.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Young\u2019s season was unique for a few reasons. The most recent installment of \u201cThe Bachelorette\u201d was the first season without Chris Harrison as host. The long-time \u201cBachelor\u201d mainstay got booted from the ABC show after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bachelor-host-chris-harrison-bashes-cancel-culture\">defending<\/a> contestant Rachael Kirkconnell for having attended an Antebellum-themed party in college. Despite a gushing apology, Harrison was replaced by former contestants Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe for Young\u2019s season.<\/p>\n<p>And in the end, Young, who is black, got engaged to Texas sales executive Nayte Olukoya, who is also black. There have been black leads in the past (Rachel Lindsay, Tayisha Adams, and Matt James), but ultimately they always selected white contestants for the final rose.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The franchise has been stepping up their efforts for diversity after a lot of external pressure. But some fans are saying their efforts are not enough. Because Young\u2019s top finalists were all black, they\u2019re claiming the next Bachelor should be black, too. Echard was eliminated from the competition back in episode 6.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been these moments of relief and surprise that made it seem like things were really going to change for the better,\u201d Bachelor Nation fan Myah Genung told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/tv\/story\/2021-12-21\/the-bachelorette-2021-finale-michelle-young-clayton-echard\">LA Times<\/a>. \u201cBut that has been immediately followed by disappointment and a reversal to the status quo, where there are glaring signs that they\u2019re privileging white men.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were these fantastic Black men at the end for Michelle, but it\u2019s as clear as day that producers don\u2019t want this to be known as \u2018the Black show,\u2019\u201d Genung continued.&nbsp;\u201cAll of the energy that we as a Black fan base have put in wanting this show to change and be better has been for naught. Michelle\u2019s season has been wonderful to watch, but I\u2019m definitely not going to watch Clayton\u2019s season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The publication also spoke with Diane Castro, a corporate communications executive who had similar sentiments. She said, \u201cAfter what happened with Matt\u2019s season, the Black Lives Matter movement and the pledges for change, to revert to the old formula is very disappointing. It\u2019s infuriating that the \u2018Bachelor\u2019 house still looks like Barbie\u2019s beach house circa 1975.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And fans pointed to \u201cThe Bachelorette\u201d having its lowest premiere ever with 3 million viewers during Young\u2019s season as being a likely culprit for not casting another black lead. One fan said not all Bachelor Nation fans are interested in \u201cdiverse love stories.\u201d That lack of viewership is seen as a reason to stop focusing on diversity. \u201cI don\u2019t see them returning to a Black lead like Michelle or Matt for a very long time,\u201d longtime fan Ashley Tabron told the Times.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond just having a black lead and contestants, Young\u2019s season of \u201cThe Bachelorette\u201d had a heavy focus on issues relating to racial equality.<\/p>\n<p>Season 26 of \u201cThe Bachelor\u201d with Clayton Echard premieres on ABC January 3.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
