From these cases they found that those who test positive for omicron are 20 percent less likely to go to hospital than those with the delta variant, and 40 percent less likely to have an overnight stay (or longer) in hospital.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Project Fear: Number of UK Omicron Hospitalised Revised from 250 to 10 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2bfakGf0lm\">https:\/\/t.co\/2bfakGf0lm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1470799997889245192?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 14, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In both studies the conclusions have not been reviewed by other scientists, so cannot be accepted as completely accurate at this stage.<\/p>\n<p>A separate study in South Africa appears to corroborate the findings by suggesting people who catch omicron are 80 percent less likely to be hospitalised, finding that&nbsp;2.5 percent of omicron cases are hospitalised, compared to 12.8 percent of delta infections, the&nbsp;<em>Daily Mail<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10335919\/Omicron-80-CENT-likely-cause-hospital-admission-Delta-major-study-suggests.html\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These findings come at a time global governments are considering new restrictions for either Christmas or the New Year, with&nbsp;W.H.O. director-general and&nbsp;Ethiopian biologist Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/22\/w-h-o-says-cancel-christmas-now-or-grieve-later\/\">telling<\/a> the world to cancel Christmas now, or \u201cgrieve later\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The UK Health Security Agency is expected to publish early real-world data on omicron early in the new year which could give further indications of the variant\u2019s severity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scientists are suggesting the omicron variant may be milder than previous strains of coronavirus, according to a string of preliminary reports released Thursday in the UK and South Africa.
