Marco Rubio sent a letter on Dec. 8 to the partners of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) pressing the organization to move the Winter Olympics from Beijing and address the ongoing genocide in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Rubio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rubio.senate.gov\/public\/_cache\/files\/82522341-1b52-4b15-be90-f3d2004f9b7b\/6E419441F7F801DAD07B80456B80BBCE.12.07.21---smr-open-letter-to-olympic-partners.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">requested<\/a> that the companies acknowledge the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/13\/china-xinjiang-uyghurs-solar-panel-forced-labor-human-rights\/\"><span>genocide<\/span><\/a><span> in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region by asking the IOC to boycott the Olympic Winter Games, or pull their advertising dollars from the event, should the games proceed as planned. H<\/span><span>owever, since the letter was sent, not one of the 15 companies affiliated with the Olympic Partner Program (TOP) <\/span>\u2014 <span>Airbnb, Alibaba, Allianz, Atos, Bridgestone, Coca-Cola, Intel, NBC, Omega, Panasonic, Procter &amp; Gamble, Toyota, Samsung and Visa <\/span>\u2014 <span>has responded to Rubio\u2019s requests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt should come as no surprise that the Olympic Partners have remained silent when asked to speak out again[st] the ongoing genocide in Xinjiang,\u201d Rubio said in a statement provided to the Daily Caller. <\/span><span>The senator went on to say that one of the partners, Coca-Cola, previously lobbied against his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/16\/senate-passes-uyghur-forced-labor-bill-marco-rubio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>Uyghur<\/span><\/a><span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/16\/senate-passes-uyghur-forced-labor-bill-marco-rubio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Forced Labor Protection Act<\/a> \u201cout of fear for their bottom line.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Rubio argued in his <\/span><span>letter<\/span><span> that moving forward with the plan to host the games in Beijing would tarnish the reputation and central values of the <a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.com\/ioc\/faq\/olympism-and-the-olympic-movement\/what-is-the-olympic-movement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Olympic Movement<\/a>, and threaten to \u201cdamage it beyond repair.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.com\/ioc\/principles\">tenant<\/a> of the IOC\u2019s vision seeks to build a \u201cbetter world through sport,\u201d and that \u201cOlympism is a philosophy of life, which places sport at the service of mankind.\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/16\/nike-democrat-oregon-ron-wyden-uyghur-forced-labor-prevention-act\/\"><b>(RELATED: Nike Executives Funneled Money To Democrats Who Just Blocked Uyghur Forced Labor Bill)<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7341828\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7341828\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tibetan activists from the Students for a Free Tibet association protest in front of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters ahead of the February\u2019s Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, on December 11, 2021 in Lausanne. \u2013 Human rights campaigners and exiles accuses Beijing of religious repression and massively curtailing rights in Tibet. (Photo by VALENTIN FLAURAUD \/ AFP) (Photo by VALENTIN FLAURAUD\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Despite the silence on Rubio\u2019s requests, the companies affiliated with the IOC have previously voiced their commitment to support issues related to social justice.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cOur pledge as a company is that we will do our part to listen, learn and act,\u201d reads a Coca-Cola <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coca-colacompany.com\/news\/where-we-stand-on-social-justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> on their <\/span><span>commitment<\/span><span> to social justice. \u201cOur company must play a visible and proactive role in creating the change that is desperately needed. More progress must be made. It is our duty.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Daily Caller contacted Coca-Cola with a request for comment in regard to Rubio\u2019s letter but did not receive a response.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Airbnb, one of the IOC\u2019s most recent partners, stated one of its goals through the partnership includes \u201cleav[ing] a legacy for the host community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis innovative partnership underpins our strategy to ensure that the efficient staging of the Olympic Games is sustainable and leaves a legacy for the host community,\u201d a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.airbnb.com\/airbnb-and-ioc-announce-major-global-olympic-partnership\/\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> on the partnership reads. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The company also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.airbnb.com\/our-commitment-to-racial-justice\/\"><span>states<\/span><\/a><span> on its own site that it has \u201cbuilt a community based on our mission of connection and belonging.\u201d Airbnb believes that all forms of hatred are antithetical to the company\u2019s mission and that it presents \u201ca threat to our Hosts, guests, employees, and the communities we serve.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Daily Caller contacted Airbnb with a request for comment but did not receive a response.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Founder Jack Ma of Alibaba, the Chinese tech and e-commerce company, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.com\/ioc\/news\/ioc-and-alibaba-group-launch-historic-long-term-partnership-as-alibaba-becomes-worldwide-olympic-partner-through-2028\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> the partnership with the IOC is based on \u201cshared values.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAlibaba\u2019s partnership with the IOC is built on a foundation of shared values and a common vision for connecting the world and enriching people\u2019s lives,\u201d Ma said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Daily Caller contacted Alibaba with a request for comment but did not receive a response.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The auto parts manufacturing company Bridgestone <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.com\/ioc\/partners\/bridgestone\"><span>claimed<\/span><\/a><span> in a statement that its partnership with the IOC showcases \u201cits commitment to community service, social responsibility, environmental stewardship and respect for diversity.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAll tenets of the Olympic Charter that lie at the heart of the Bridgestone brand and its mission of \u2018Serving Society with Superior Quality,\u2019\u201d the statement continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Daily Caller contacted Bridgestone, and the other companies partnered with the IOC, with a request for comment but did not receive a response.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs long as major corporations continue to turn a blind eye to human rights violations like the ones being carried out by the Chinese Communist Party, I\u2019ll keep working to hold them accountable,\u201d Rubio said in the statement to the Daily Caller.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Florida Sen.
