Voters in the two swing districts, the First and Sixth, supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election by 1.4 points and 0.1 points respectively, giving Republicans a strong chance at picking up both seats in a wave election. The First and Sixth are currently represented by Democrat Tom <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/10\/09\/tom-ohalleran-democrats-kavanaugh\/\">O\u2019Halleran<\/a> and Republican David <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/06\/26\/congress-republicans-death-threats\/\">Schweikert<\/a>, respectively. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/22\/new-jersey-redistricting-tom-malinowski-map-democrat\/\"><strong>(RELATED: New Jersey\u2019s New Congressional Map Locks Out One Democrat)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Breaking: AZ commission (two Rs, two Ds, one tie-breaker) votes *unanimously* to approve new congressional map that would\u2019ve split 5-4 for Biden in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AZ01?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AZ01<\/a> (Biden +1.4) and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AZ06?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AZ06<\/a> (Biden +0.1) are highly tenuous, so GOP has a great opportunity to go 6R-3D in 2022. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nlMc20AClx\">pic.twitter.com\/nlMc20AClx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dave Wasserman (@Redistrict) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redistrict\/status\/1473702345548742656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 22, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>O\u2019Halleran\u2019s home, formerly in the northern part of the First District, was drawn into the Second District, which supported Donald Trump in 2020 by eight points. The Second is currently represented by Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick, who is retiring. Schweikert\u2019s home in Scottsdale was drawn into the new First District, which supported Biden by one point, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redistrict\/status\/1473702347889164301\">according<\/a> to Cook Political Report editor Dave Wasserman.<\/p>\n<p>The Arizona Democratic Party blasted the new map, <a href=\"https:\/\/azdem.org\/statement-from-adp-executive-director-irc-congressional-map\/\">claiming<\/a> that it would \u201c<span class=\"ll-at-font ll-at-size\">enable the rising extremism in the Arizona Republican Party\u201d and \u201cundermine the voting power of Arizonans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The redistricting commission\u2019s hearings grew testy at times, with Democratic commissioner Shereen Lerner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azmirror.com\/2021\/12\/21\/heated-day-of-partisan-fighting-ends-with-unlikely-agreement-on-congressional-map\/\">accusing<\/a> the commission of being biased towards Republicans. Republican commissioner David Mehl responded that Lerner was being unreasonable with her demands, before the two ultimately worked out a compromise regarding the boundaries of the Sixth District.
