The pause will now last until May 2022. The U.S. has had the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/20\/joe-biden-student-loan-payment-moratorium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">moratorium in place<\/a> since the earliest days of the pandemic under former President Donald Trump. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/05\/biden-admin-laurence-tribe-cdc-eviction-moratorium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Biden Admin Consulted Prolific Conspiracy Theorist Laurence Tribe On CDC Eviction Moratorium)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Education will continue working with borrowers to ensure they have the support they need to transition smoothly back into repayment and advance economic stability for their own households and for our nation,\u201d Biden said in a statement.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7341526\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7341526\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>President Joe Biden answers questions after speaking about the status of the country\u2019s fight against COVID-19 on Tuesday. (Brendan Smialowski\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAs we are taking this action, I\u2019m asking all student loan borrowers to do their part as well: take full advantage of the Department of Education\u2019s resources to help you prepare for payments to resume; look at options to lower your payments through income-based repayment plans; explore public service loan forgiveness; and make sure you are vaccinated and boosted when eligible,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary Jen Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/22\/politics\/student-loan-pause-biden\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">indicated<\/a> earlier in December that the Biden administration still intended to restart student loan payments beginning in February.<\/p>\n<p>Leading Democrats on Capitol Hill urged Biden to hold off on restarting loan payments until the U.S. economy reached pre-pandemic levels of employment, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/12\/21\/student-loan-relief-omicron-covid-525870\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to Politico<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">With BBB delayed, Child Tax Credits will expire and student loans will restart within a matter of weeks.
