You don\u2019t have to do it, and there can\u2019t be mandates and all those things, but you have to embrace it,\u201d Trump said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/trump-appreciative-biden-acknowledged-administrations-covid-vaccine-success\">interview<\/a>&nbsp;with Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a matter of getting people out to, ideally, get the vaccine. If you have the mandate, the mandate will destroy people\u2019s lives \u2014 it destroys people\u2019s lives, just as the vaccine saves people,\u201d he said. \u201cI think that it\u2019s really a question of tone. It\u2019s a question of trust, and hopefully, the people that have had COVID, hopefully they will be given credit for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump was booed for announcing during his recent \u201cHistory Tour\u201d with former Fox News host Bill O\u2019Reilly that he had taken the booster. He chastised the small group of booers, saying, \u201cDon\u2019t, don\u2019t, don\u2019t\u2026 That\u2019s all right, it\u2019s a very tiny group over there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former president, who contracted COVID-19 in October 2020, also encouraged the audience to get vaccinated, and he noted that his administration \u201cdid something that was historic\u201d in helping to create a vaccine in record time.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden, who has been stingy in giving Trump credit, recently changed his tone, thanking the Trump administration on Tuesday for setting up Operation Warp Speed, which fast-tracked three versions of the vaccine and put in place a distribution system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the prior administration and our scientific community, America\u2019s one of the first countries to get the vaccine,\u201d Biden said in a speech that set out his plan to battle the Omicron variant. \u201cThanks to my administration and the hard work of Americans, we led a rollout [that] made America among the world leaders and getting shots and arms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump said in his interview that he was \u201csurprised\u201d Biden thanked him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very appreciative of that \u2014 I was surprised to hear it,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI think it was a terrific thing, and I think it makes a lot of people happy\u2026.I think he did something very good. You know, it has to be a process of healing in this country, and that will help a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI may have been the vehicle, but we all did this together,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we came up with these incredible vaccines \u2014 three of them \u2014 and therapeutics, we did a tremendous job, and we should never disparage them,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWe should be really happy about it because we\u2019ve all saved millions and millions of lives all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 200 million Americans are fully vaccinated, meaning they\u2019ve taken two doses of a vaccine, <a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/covid-vaccinations?country=USA\">according<\/a> to Our World In Data.
