(AP Photo\/Alexander Zemlianichenko)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>The three supposedly committed an \u201cunauthorized\u201d act of \u201cdeliberate\u201d malice when they agreed to dissolve the USSR as a \u201csubject of international and geopolitical reality\u201d by granting independence to Ukraine and Belarus, an exit that soon became a stampede of fleeing Soviet satellites.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The agreement in question was <\/span><span>actually <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/cold-war\/fall-of-soviet-union\"><span>signed<\/span><\/a><span> by then-President Mikhail Gorbachev, not Yeltsin, who was most famous at the time for jumping on top of a tank outside the Parliament building and rallying a crowd of anti-Soviet demonstrators. Either the LDPR got its history wrong, it was more interested in beating up Yeltsin than Gorbachev, or the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/2021\/12\/21\/russian-lawmakers-seek-to-recognize-soviet-fall-as-greatest-20th-century-catastrophe-a75886\"><i><span>Moscow Times<\/span><\/i><\/a> <span>misquoted the LDPR resolution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The resolution meshes neatly with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/12\/13\/vladimir-putin-calls-soviet-collapse-a-tragedy-violation-of-russian-sovereignty\/\"><span>rhetoric<\/span><\/a><span> of current Russian President Vladimir Putin, who spent the past few months moping about the \u201ctragedy\u201d of the Soviet Union\u2019s collapse and the damage to Russian sovereignty caused by the independence of Ukraine and the other satellite states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe turned into a completely different country, and what had been built up over a thousand years was largely lost,\u201d Putin lamented, even as he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/12\/03\/ukraine-warns-of-large-scale-russian-offensive-in-january\/\"><span>massed<\/span><\/a><span> 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border and gave the impression he might be interested in rebuilding the USSR by force.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>The Russian Communist Party <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailystorm.ru\/news\/v-ck-kprf-pozhalovalis-na-ldpr-predlozhivshuyu-priznat-raspad-sssr-geopoliticheskoy-katastrofoy-veka\"><span>complained<\/span><\/a><span> on Monday that LDPR was muscling in on its act and trying to co-opt the \u201cleft agenda\u201d by passing a symbolic resolution that says what the Communists have always believed.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Communists also grumbled that LDPR\u2019s resolution is purely theatrical, unadorned by any specific policies or suggestions about how to reverse the \u201cgeopolitical catastrophe\u201d of 1991.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Russian legislators are not the only ones exploiting Soviet nostalgia as the 30th anniversary of the USSR\u2019s collapse approaches.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Monday, the Russian national ice hockey team <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-12-20\/russia-s-hockey-team-raises-eyebrows-with-throwback-ussr-jerseys\"><span>provoked outrage<\/span><\/a><span> across northern Europe by showing up for a game against Finland wearing throwback Soviet Union jerseys.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Alexander Stubb, the prime minister of Finland, said he was \u201csurprised and disappointed\u201d by the Russian jerseys, which were emblazoned with the letters \u201cCCCP,\u201d the Cyrillic alphabet version of USSR.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat letter combination and the regime that stood behind it symbolizes authoritarian imperialism and killed millions of innocent people in the process,\u201d said Stubb.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Stubb said the CCCP jerseys were an \u201coffensive gesture that does not belong to sport, or anywhere else,\u201d especially since \u201ccountries in the ice hockey family were brutally annexed by those letters.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Russia
