Kathy Hochul\u2019s (D) office backtracked on Monday after the governor announced the state would provide millions of dollars in support to counties complying with her mask rules, as well as state inspectors to conduct \u201cspot checks\u201d for coronavirus mandate compliance in businesses across the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cI want to focus on the counties doing the right thing, and that have been our allies in making sure that we ensure that people are compliant with our protocols related to masks,\u201d Hochul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democratandchronicle.com\/story\/news\/2021\/12\/20\/ny-covid-county-mandates\/8974699002\/\">said<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cI have heard from a number of them that while they support what we\u2019re doing with masks and vaccinations, they also needed more resources to help them get this done,\u201d she continued, offering $65 million in assistance to counties complying with her mask mandate and previewing state inspectors providing \u201cspot checks\u201d for counties to assist with compliance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWe\u2019ll be \u2014 we\u2019ll be sending around inspectors to do spot checks to see what\u2019s going on,\u201d she said, explaining that her administration is \u201clending resources where they\u2019re needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cMany businesses and&nbsp; individuals are following this, and there are some counties where they want to see them followed but they just don\u2019t have the personnel needed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">However, her office <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/20\/hochuls-office-backtracks-on-ny-mask-mandate-spot-checks\/\">backtracked<\/a> later in the day after controversy over Hochul\u2019s assertion of the state\u2019s direct involvement in compliance checks in individual counties, some of which have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/14\/new-york-counties-to-defy-gov-hochuls-mask-mandate\/\">made<\/a> it clear they will not enforce her rule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnforcement will be done by local health departments, and Governor Hochul made $65 million available today for counties\u2019 enforcement needs, including personnel costs associated with spot checks and other enforcement,\u201d&nbsp;Hochul spokesperson Hazel Crampton-Hays clarified.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul announced the new mask rule this month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/11\/new-york-issues-ultimatum-businesses-check-patrons-vaccination-status-require-masks\/\">requiring<\/a> private businesses to either check the vaccination status of patrons or implement a sweeping mask mandate.<br \/>\u201cI have warned for weeks that additional steps could be necessary, and now we are at that point based upon three metrics: Increasing cases, reduced hospital capacity, and insufficient vaccination rates in certain areas,\u201d she said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The rule is slated to last at least until January 15, 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York Gov.
