Her other lawyer said she never had sex with prominent people, and so the government quite deliberately didn\u2019t use Virginia Giuffre, this lying witness. They didn\u2019t use her. (Elizabeth Williams via AP)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Prosecutors \u201cdidn\u2019t think [Giuffre] was credible,\u201d Dershowitz added. He said the government\u2019s prosecution of Maxwell is driven by her proximity to Jeffrey Epstein rather than the strength of evidence against her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of holes in the case,\u201d he said of the government\u2019s prosecution of Maxwell. \u201cIf her name was Jane Smith and if her boyfriend were John Smith \u2014 not Jeffrey Epstein \u2014 there would have been an acquittal. There wouldn\u2019t have been a prosecution, but because this is really a surrogate trial for Epstein, it\u2019s going to be very hard for her to get an acquittal, because if she gets an acquittal, I think people will say, \u2018Oh my god, that means that Epstein got acquitted.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dershowitz concluded, \u201cI think that it\u2019s going to be very hard for her to get fair trial. The fact that she was not let out on bail and she was kept in terrible conditions for all this period of time is also suggestive about the unfairness.
