The claim appears to stem from a satire article.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The image in the Facebook post shows what appears to be a screen grab of a news article entitled: \u201cPope Francis cancels the Bible and proposes to create a new book.\u201d The article\u2019s visible first paragraph claims Pope Francis called the Bible \u201ccompletely outdated,\u201d and he deemed the Christian scriptural canon \u201cofficially canceled.\u201d The text further states that a new book will be chosen to replace the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>The pope has not, however, \u201ccanceled\u201d the Bible. Check Your Fact reviewed Pope Francis\u2019 messages, speeches and other documents released in the daily <a href=\"https:\/\/press.vatican.va\/content\/salastampa\/en\/ricerca.html?date=2021-12&amp;q=replace+Bible\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Holy See Press Office Bulletin<\/a>, but found no instances of him stating the Bible is outdated, canceled or going to be replaced. No such opinion is mentioned in any of his <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=Bible%20(from%3APontifex)&amp;src=typed_query&amp;f=live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweets<\/a>, either.<\/p>\n<p>Had the pope stated he was planning on replacing the Bible, media outlets certainly would have reported on it, yet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Pope+Francis+replacing+the+Bible&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=nws&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwj53JuSpPX0AhWNjokEHbd1CrAQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&amp;biw=1440&amp;bih=724&amp;dpr=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">none<\/a> have. In fact, he expressed a different sentiment in a June 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Pontifex\/status\/1145655791665340417\">tweet<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2019\/11\/29\/fact-check-kanye-west-yeezus-bible-genesis-replace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Book Of Yeezus\u2019 \u2013 Did Kanye West Publish A Bible That Replaces \u2018God\u2019 With His Name?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bible is not just a beautiful book to keep on a shelf. It is the Word of life be sown, a gift that the Risen Jesus asks us to accept in order to have life in His name,\u201d Pope Francis tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>The screen grab shown in the Facebook post appears to stem from an April 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/thereisnews.com\/pope-francis-cancels-bible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> posted on the website thereisnews.com. The website states its content is \u201cnot real, but so funny.\u201d Nevertheless, some social media users <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=417796849899962&amp;set=gm.1223880984784907&amp;type=3&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">have<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/permalink.php?story_fbid=828090821153325&amp;id=100018572436892\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared<\/a> the article\u2019s text as if it were factual.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A post shared on Facebook over 150 times claims Pope Francis said the Bible is \u201coutdated\u201d and will be replaced.Verdict: FalsePope Francis has not made such an announcement.
