Let us be clear, this is not business as usual. It is illegal and individuals and companies will pay a price for such violations.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DOJ officials said Cheng&#8217;s actions helped China secure at least $814,000 in American goods. If convicted, Cheng will serve up to 20 years in prison and face fines up to double the value of the fraudulent transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cheng&#8217;s case is only the latest in a series of arrests and charges related to Chinese espionage and interference in American affairs. Earlier this month, a senior NASA scientist <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/senior-nasa-scientist-pleads-guilty-to-lying-about-connection-to-chinese-spy-program\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">pleaded<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> guilty to lying about his connections to a\u00a0<\/span>Chinese espionage program. In December, Rep.
