And I believe the president when he says he had a commitment,\u201d Jayapal noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve mentioned climate, and, you know, specifically around fossil fuels. We\u2019ve mentioned student loans,\u201d Jayapal said. \u201cWe need to run that through our process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201c[N]o one should think that we are going to be satisfied with an even smaller package that leaves people behind or refuses to tackle critical issues like climate change,\u201d Jayapal said during her conference call with the press, The Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/586639-progressive-leader-calls-on-biden-to-unilaterally-act-on-agenda\">reported<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThat\u2019s why it is now incumbent on President Biden to keep his promise to us and to the American people by using the ultimate tool in his toolbox of executive action in every arena immediately,\u201d she added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Jayapal said she would start discussions with Progressive Caucus leaders on Monday and with the White House later in the week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAt this point, we should not wait for that legislative path for the president to take action. I just think if there are too many Americans hurting, there\u2019s too much at stake \u2026 We have trusted for too long that Sen. Manchin was engaging in good faith,\u201d Jayapal <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/586639-progressive-leader-calls-on-biden-to-unilaterally-act-on-agenda\">said<\/a>. \u201cI am not willing to hang my hopes and the futures of millions of Americans across country on whether or not he will do what he said he would do yesterday, which is often different from today or tomorrow.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Hill noted that it isn\u2019t clear which parts of the bill Biden could take direct action on, but progressives are reportedly pushing the president to act and prioritize climate change policies, as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWhatever costs the senator claimed to be concerned about it will cost exponentially more to act later, after the damage has occurred both in dollars and in humans,\u201d Jayapal said. \u201cWe cannot pass up our singular opportunity to address the scope of this crisis.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Manchin \u201cwent back on his word that lack of integrity is stunning in a town where people say the only thing that you have is your word,\u201d Jayapal told the press. \u201cAccording to the White House\u2019s statement yesterday and my own conversations with the White House yesterday, it is abundantly clear that we cannot trust what Sen. Manchin says.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe senator called me this morning; I took his call. And there is nothing I have said here that I didn\u2019t say to him \u2026 We cannot hang the futures of millions of Americans on the words of one man who represents a state that has a tiny percentage of the country\u2019s entire population.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Hill reported:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Asked about Jayapal\u2019s push for unilateral action, White House press secretary&nbsp;Jen Psaki&nbsp;told reporters she wasn\u2019t aware of it being under discussion but noted that Biden hasn\u2019t shied from using executive action \u201cto make a range of progress.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>\u201cThe benefit of legislation is obviously that it makes it permanent,\u201d Psaki said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/this-is-a-no-joe-manchin-says-he-cannot-vote-to-continue-on-build-back-better\">reported<\/a>, Manchin said in an interview on \u201cFox News Sunday\u201d that he was a \u201cno\u201d on Biden\u2019s huge social spending package.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI\u2019ve done everything humanly possible. And you know my concerns I had, and I still have these concerns,\u201d Manchin said, noting how his constituents in West Virginia were already feeling the negative effects of inflation. \u201cIt\u2019s real, it\u2019s harming every West Virginian, it\u2019s making it almost \u2014 difficult for them to continue to go to their jobs. The cost of gasoline, the cost of groceries, the cost of utility bills, all of these things are hitting in every aspect of their life and you start looking at \u2014 then you have the debt that we are carrying at $29 trillion, you have also the geopolitical unrest that we have. You have the COVID, the COVID variant, and that is wreaking havoc again, people are concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cYou\u2019re done?
