Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) will not run for reelection after her congressional district is slated to be broken in two and she was snubbed out of running for the Senate by Florida congressional colleague Rep. Val Demings (D-FL).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a real honor for me to serve in Congress, but it does come at a personal sacrifice. My time away has been hard on my family and my kids and on me,\u201d Murphy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/12\/20\/murphy-a-leader-of-house-dem-centrists-wont-seek-reelection-525750\">told<\/a> <em>Politico,&nbsp;<\/em>ultimately making her the twenty-second House Democrat after longtime&nbsp;New Jersey Rep.&nbsp;Albio Sires (D-NJ) was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/20\/pelosis-majority-crumbles-longtime-new-jersey-democrat-albio-sires-will-not-seek-reelection\/\">confirmed<\/a> to be retiring over the weekend.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>While the proposed map is waiting to be approved by the Florida&nbsp;legislature, it would essentially delete her congressional seat. Murphy told <em>Politico<\/em> that her decision was not solely based on her reelection chances or the Democrats\u2019 ability to maintain a majority in the House: \u201cI think I could win in every one of the maps that has been proposed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murphy\u2019s announcement also comes after&nbsp;she backtracked on her Senate primary bid against Demings in hopes of eventually facing Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). Before she backtracked, Murphy was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/midterm-election\/2021\/05\/20\/stephanie-murphy-val-demings-abandon-house-compete-democrat-senate-primary\/\">reportedly<\/a> willing to challenge Demings in a Senate bid.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"12.234604105572\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I&#8217;ve decided not to seek another term in Congress. She has helped them pass partisan agenda items, voting with Pelosi 95 percent of the time, <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/represent\/members\/P000197-nancy-pelosi\/compare-votes\/M001202-stephanie-murphy\/116\">according<\/a> to ProPublica.<\/p>\n<p>Some of those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/19\/stephanie-murphy-breaks-promise-votes-for-reconciliation-package\/\">partisan<\/a> votes include the $1.2 trillion, 2,702-page&nbsp;so-called&nbsp;bipartisan infrastructure bill earlier this year&nbsp;\u2014 which Biden already signed into law \u2014 and the&nbsp;$1.75 trillion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/19\/house-passes-behemoth-build-back-better-act\/\">Build Back Better Act<\/a>&nbsp;(BBB) \u2014 also&nbsp;known as the Democrats\u2019 reconciliation infrastructure bill.&nbsp;However, while&nbsp;the&nbsp;BBB was considered to be the \u201cmarquee legislation\u201d of Biden\u2019s agenda and would&nbsp;ultimately&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/11\/12\/bidens-build-back-better-will-raise-taxes-on-30-of-middle-class-families\/?utm_medium=SocialFlow&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_source=NYPTwitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">increase<\/a> taxes on the middle class, expand and prolong the effects of inflation, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/18\/cbo-build-back-better-act-adds-750-billion-to-deficit-over-five-years\/\">add<\/a> hundreds of billions of dollars to the U.S. deficit, it was&nbsp;effectively killed by&nbsp;Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). The senator on <em>Fox News Sunday&nbsp;<\/em>this past weekend&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/19\/joe-manchin-to-oppose-4-91-trillion-build-back-better-act-effectively-killing-bill\/\">said<\/a>, \u201cI cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation \u2026 I can\u2019t get there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murphy\u2019s exit from the House means that companies with deep Chinese ties would be affected. Breitbart News\u2019s Washington Political Editor, Matthew Boyle,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/04\/27\/corporate-cash-from-pacs-for-companies-with-deep-china-ties-floods-into-democrat-stephanie-murphys-campaign\/\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;towards the beginning of the year that Murphy\u2019s Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings show the vulnerable Democrat has a \u201cflood of corporate cash into her campaign from big multinational companies with deep ties in China.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/04\/08\/democrat-rep-stephanie-murphy-holds-patent-softball-pants-husbands-company-manufactures-china\/\">finding<\/a> came after pressure was put on Murphy \u201cto address the fact that her husband\u2019s company manufactures women\u2019s softball pants, the design patent for which she is a partial holder in China rather than in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boyle wrote that&nbsp;Murphy holds a&nbsp;patent for women\u2019s softball pants that her husband\u2019s company manufactures in China while trying to create the image that she is tough on China:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"36.211594202899\">\n<p>Murphy and her husband Sean Murphy are two of three applicants and inventors listed on <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/pdfpiw.uspto.gov\/.piw?Docid=D0730016&amp;homeurl=http%253A%252F%252Fpatft.uspto.gov%252Fnetacgi%252Fnph-Parser%253FSect1%253DPTO2%252526Sect2%253DHITOFF%252526u%253D%2525252Fnetahtml%2525252FPTO%2525252Fsearch-adv.htm%252526r%253D2%252526p%253D1%252526f%253DG%252526l%253D50%252526d%253DPTXT%252526S1%253D((athletic.TI.%25252BAND%25252Bpants)%25252BAND%25252Bmurphy.INNM.)%252526OS%253Dttl%252Fathletic%25252Band%25252Bpants%25252Band%25252BIN%252Fmurphy%252526RS%253D((TTL%252Fathletic%25252BAND%25252Bpants)%25252BAND%25252BIN%252Fmurphy)&amp;PageNum=&amp;Rtype=&amp;SectionNum=&amp;idkey=NONE&amp;Input=View+first+page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">a 14-year patent<\/a> dated May 26, 2015, for the \u201cornamental design for athletic pants\u201d for a product called \u201cNuFit Knickers.\u201d They are also listed as the applicants and investors on a second patent, also for athletic pants, dated Feb. 27, 2017\u2014after Stephanie Murphy was a member of Congress, as she was first elected in 2016\u2014for <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/pdfpiw.uspto.gov\/.piw?Docid=D0779788&amp;homeurl=http%253A%252F%252Fpatft.uspto.gov%252Fnetacgi%252Fnph-Parser%253FSect1%253DPTO2%252526Sect2%253DHITOFF%252526u%253D%2525252Fnetahtml%2525252FPTO%2525252Fsearch-adv.htm%252526r%253D1%252526p%253D1%252526f%253DG%252526l%253D50%252526d%253DPTXT%252526S1%253D((athletic.TI.%25252BAND%25252Bpants)%25252BAND%25252Bmurphy.INNM.)%252526OS%253Dttl%252Fathletic%25252Band%25252Bpants%25252Band%25252BIN%252Fmurphy%252526RS%253D((TTL%252Fathletic%25252BAND%25252Bpants)%25252BAND%25252BIN%252Fmurphy)&amp;PageNum=&amp;Rtype=&amp;SectionNum=&amp;idkey=NONE&amp;Input=View+first+page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">a 15-year patent<\/a> also for an \u201cornamental design for athletic pants.\u201d The women\u2019s softball apparel, sold through Sean Murphy\u2019s 3n2 Sports, are according to the company\u2019s website are \u201ca fit so perfect it\u2019s patented.\u201d The website <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.3n2sports.com\/nufit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">repeatedly hypes<\/a> the fact that the pants designs are patented as one of the main features of the product.<\/p>\n<p>Sean Murphy, the congresswoman\u2019s husband, is the CEO of 3n2 Sports\u2014a sports apparel and shoe company that was originally founded by a Nike engineer. The company\u2019s name is a play on the idea of a full count in baseball\u2014three balls and two strikes\u2014and the company had fallen on tough times when in 2008 Sean Murphy and Marty Graham, a partner of his in a wine distribution business, stepped in to buy the company. More than a decade later, in the company\u2019s latest <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/search.sunbiz.org\/Inquiry\/CorporationSearch\/GetDocument?aggregateId=forl-m08000003807-03dc8bf5-cf14-49bd-aa52-d0bdeb74328f&amp;transactionId=m08000003807-6491075a-e132-411f-a79e-f0ff5ba4eab1&amp;formatType=PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">LLC document filings<\/a> with the state of Florida and <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.3n2sports.com\/engine.aspx?XmlPackage=executive-bios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">on its website<\/a>, Sean Murphy remains an officer of the company and its CEO.<\/p>\n<p>The congresswoman\u2019s earliest financial disclosure report <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/disclosures-clerk.house.gov\/public_disc\/financial-pdfs\/2016\/10013661.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">filed in September 2016<\/a>indicate that her husband was drawing a salary from 3n2, and that she personally was paid a consulting fee of greater than $5,000 by 3n2. Her full 2016 disclosure <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/disclosures-clerk.house.gov\/public_disc\/financial-pdfs\/2016\/10015680.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">filed in spring 2017<\/a> lists 3n2 as a source of spousal income but does not list an exact amount. Her 2017 financial disclosure reports\u2014both the <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/disclosures-clerk.house.gov\/public_disc\/financial-pdfs\/2017\/10021289.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">original<\/a> and <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/disclosures-clerk.house.gov\/public_disc\/financial-pdfs\/2017\/10022658.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">amended<\/a> ones, both filed in May 2018\u2014do not mention 3n2 at all. Her <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/disclosures-clerk.house.gov\/public_disc\/financial-pdfs\/2018\/10027317.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">2018<\/a> and <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/disclosures-clerk.house.gov\/public_disc\/financial-pdfs\/2019\/10037582.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">2019<\/a> reports, filed in 2019 and 2020 respectively, do list 3n2 as a source of spousal income but do not list an amount. The 2019 report filed in 2020 lists 3n2 as a spousal asset valued between $1,001 and $15,000.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_16596740\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"42.566292134831\">\n<p>Murphy is the twenty-second House Democrat to announce retirement, as other older and more vulnerable Democrats have are also on record as giving up their current seats.&nbsp;While she has indicated this may not be her last time running for office or being in the public eye, she is only the thirteenth Democrat to announce actual retirement \u2014 including three committee chairs&nbsp;\u2014 while eight more Democrats announced they would run for a different office, either in a local or state election.<\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News has extensively reported on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/midterm-election\/2021\/12\/16\/20-democrats-will-not-seek-reelection-in-house-4x-number-gop-needs-to-win-back-majority\/\">Pelosi\u2019s majority crumbling<\/a>&nbsp;and the Democrats\u2019 struggles to&nbsp;keep members in the House and find new candidates to run for office.&nbsp;There have also been rumors of more Democrats abandoning ship in the coming weeks and months leading up to the midterms, as more redistricting maps are accepted and deadlines to file for reelection are getting closer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Wendell Husebo contributed to this report.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
