He spoke to Breitbart News on the condition that he not be named for fear of social and professional retribution.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>A medical physicist is someone who oversees the safe usage of radiation and imaging in order to properly treat cancer patients. \u201cMost people aren\u2019t going to know that we exist until, unfortunately, they\u2019ve had cancer treatments for cancer,\u201d the medical physicist told Breitbart News. \u201cSo any cancer patient who\u2019s ever had a radiation treatment, whether they know it or not, has had an interaction with a medical physicist, because that person, in my role, sort of assumes the responsibility for the safety of that patient, the safe use and effective use of radiation to treat their cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the AAPM, an organization that would normally focus on scientific discovery and advances in technology and medicine, is now investing time and energy into diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives. \u201cIn a normal world, or in years past, it would be like, \u2018Hey, there\u2019s a new report on CT quality assurance for this type of cancer and how to protect pediatric patients from too much radiation.\u2019 But now, they\u2019re listing out recently formed task groups that say, \u2018Hey, we formed a task group for sexual and gender minority physicists.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The AAPM also has a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aapm.org\/org\/structure\/?committee_code=HLMPSC&amp;utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">Hispanic<\/a> and Latin-x Medical Physics Subcommittee\u201d and a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aapm.org\/org\/structure\/?committee_code=BAASC&amp;utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">Black<\/a> and African American Medical Physics Subcommittee.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>AAPM\u2019s \u201cSexual and Gender Minority Subcommittee\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aapm.org\/org\/structure\/?committee_code=SGMSC\">seeks<\/a> to \u201cfoster and promote intersectionality,\u201d as well as focus on recruiting more members of that group into the field. Another committee, which is focused on the use of gendered language in the field, is tasked with \u201crecommend[ing]&nbsp;changes in wording to replace gendered pronoun usage with gender-neutral language where appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe committee is encouraged to consider whether to use specific gender-neutral pronouns (\u201cthey,\u201d \u201cxe,\u201d etc) or to rewrite the sentences to avoid the use of pronouns altogether,\u201d the committee charter states. \u201cThe latter approach may be the more robust change in view of the fluid evolution of pronoun usage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just like, what are we focusing on?\u201d the medical physicist told Breitbart News. \u201cAre we focusing on technology and advancements that are gonna help us fight cancer and help treat patients more safely? Or are we focused on, frankly, this political nonsense?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He told Breitbart News that the people who are pushing for these committees are primarily at the academic centers, saying that was \u201ckind of scary in its own right because&nbsp;academic centers are supposed to be the ones that push the new technologies and have the resources and the finances to, for example, buy state-of-the-art equipment and engage in more clinical trials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The medical physicist said many in the organization are afraid to speak up for fear of being blacklisted or having their careers ruined. \u201cI think some of these people on the executive board are at the biggest cancer centers, the most renowned in the country, like MD Anderson in Texas, you know, it\u2019s kind of like the nucleus of radiation oncology.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to speak up, I\u2019d like to say, \u2018Hey, what does this have to do with our profession? This is a professional organization, not an activist organization,&#8217;\u201d he said. \u201cI think a lot of people, a surprisingly large number, would love to say something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But AAPM does appear to place activists as chairs of the committees. Toni Roth, the chair of the&nbsp;\u201cSexual and Gender Minority Subcommittee,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TMRoth\">describes<\/a> herself on Twitter as \u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Medical Physicist, Intersectional Feminist, A<\/span>ndrogynous Chic<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">, Pronouns: she\/her\/hers, Salutation: Mx.\u201d She has retweeted radicals like Stacey Abrams and critical race theory purveyor Ibram X. What is the need for this? Why are we paying money to an organization so they can spend their time focusing on this?&#8217;\u201d the medical physicist said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>He told Breitbart News the new initiatives are \u201cfollowing through the larger societal wokeness rage,\u201d but that AAPM members themselves do not typically get political. Part of that, at least for persons who do not agree with the political direction of the organization, is because \u201cnobody wants to eliminate themselves from 50 percent of an already small pool of jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so once you get settled with a family in an area, you have to really think about your future and the way society is now with canceling people and tracking down where they work, and how crazy everyone is over this stuff. I think that\u2019s more the fear among people from speaking up,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>AAPM did not respond to a request for comment from Breitbart News.<\/p>\n<p>Medical physicists are not the only ones in the medical field seeing these changes. As Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/17\/biden-admin-encourages-doctors-implement-anti-racism-plans-offering-bonuses\/\">reported<\/a>, the Biden administration is offering bonuses to doctors who&nbsp;\u201ccreate and implement an anti-racism plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is encouraging doctors to conduct a \u201c\u2018a clinic-wide review\u2019 of their practice\u2019s \u2018commitment to anti-racism.\u2019 The plan should cover \u2018value statements\u2019 and \u2018clinical practice guidelines.&#8217;\u201d HHS also requires that race be defined as \u201c\u2018a political and social construct, not a physiological one\u2019\u2014a dichotomy many doctors say will discourage genetic testing and worsen racial health disparities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HHS also said of the rule that \u201cit is important to acknowledge systemic racism as a root cause for differences in health outcomes between socially-defined racial groups.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Breccan F.
