Greg Abbott directed state agencies to \u201cidentify\u201d ways to combat \u201cfederal overreach\u201d by President Joe Biden\u2019s administration in the energy sector on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott issued a state executive order specifically targeting the White House\u2019s approach to energy development and production, which Abbott said showed \u201cextreme hostility toward the energy sector, and thus toward Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Abbott\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/uploads\/files\/press\/EO-GA-33_protection_of_Texas%e2%80%99s_energy_industry_IMAGE_01-28-2021.pdf\">order<\/a> directs \u201cevery state agency to use all lawful powers and tools to challenge any federal action that threatens the continued strength, vitality and independence of the energy industry. Each state agency should work to identify potential litigation, notice-and-comment opportunities, and any other means of preventing federal overreach within the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden made a flurry of executive actions during his first days in office targeting energy development on federal land and a major pipeline project meant to carry crude oil from Canada to U.S. refineries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/john-kerry-gas-industry-workers-who-lose-their-jobs-can-go-make-the-solar-panels\">Biden<\/a> indefinitely suspended issuing any new gas leases on federal land so the Department of the Interior can study the impact of oil drilling on climate change. The president also barred oil companies from drilling in an oil preserve known as the 1002 Area of Alaska\u2019s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. On his first day in office, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/canadian-lawmakers-react-to-biden-killing-keystone-xl-pipeline\">Biden<\/a> revoked a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline to cross from Canada into the United States, effectively shutting down a years-long project angering top Canadian lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>Texas has already filed a lawsuit against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/texas-sues-biden-over-100-day-freeze-on-deportations-will-endanger-our-citizens-and-law-enforcement\">Biden administration<\/a> over an order suspending deportations of illegal immigrants for 100 days. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton accused Biden of violating a contract the state struck with the Department of Homeland Security under former President Donald Trump that the federal government would consult with the state before changing immigration law.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton blocked the order on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-texas-judge-blocks-bidens-plan-to-pause-deportations\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Judge Tipton stated that Texas had \u201ca substantial likelihood of success\u201d arguing that the deportation freeze violated a federal immigration law and that the Biden administration \u201carbitrarily and capriciously departed from its previous policy without sufficient explanation\u201d when it issued the memo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Tipton added that the Biden administration failed to \u201cprovide any concrete, reasonable justification\u201d for the moratorium. He wrote that the memorandum \u201cnot only fails to consider potential policies more limited in scope and time, but it also fails to provide any concrete, reasonable justification for a 100-day pause on deportations,\u201d as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/01\/26\/judge-blocks-bidens-pause-on-deportations-after-texas-challenge.html\">CNBC<\/a>\u00a0noted.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Tipton stated, \u201cDHS, however, never explains how the pause in removals helps accomplish these goals. It remains unknown why a 100-day pause is needed given the allegedly \u2018unique circumstances\u2019 to which the January 20 Memorandum alludes.\u201d He also asserted that the pause could cause \u201cimminent and irreparable harm\u201d to Texas.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Paxton reacted to the judge\u2019s decision by saying, \u201cThe Court\u2019s decision to stop the Biden Administration from casting aside congressionally enacted immigration laws is a much-needed remedy for DHS\u2019s unlawful action. A near-complete suspension of deportations would only serve to endanger Texans and undermine federal law,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/01\/26\/politics\/deportation-biden\/index.html\">CNN reported<\/a>, adding, \u201cThe Biden moratorium covers most deportations but excludes individuals who came to the U.S. after November 1, are suspected of terrorism or espionage or pose a danger to national security, have waived rights to remain in the U.S. or who\u2019ve been determined removable by the acting director, according to an agency memo.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
