We have done much work, but have not made a final decision on our legal team, which will be made shortly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Republican strategist and Mitch McConnell ally Janet Mullins Grissom commented on the situation, writing: &#8220;If you\u2019re Trump this is rather a no brainer. With Senate Rs aka the jury on record that impeaching former president is unconstitutional why spend money on lawyers?&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">If you\u2019re Trump this is rather a no brainer. With Senate Rs aka the jury on record that impeaching former president is unconstitutional why spend money on lawyers ? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VSgLRBoAPg\">https:\/\/t.co\/VSgLRBoAPg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Janet Mullins Grissom (@JMullinsGrissom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JMullinsGrissom\/status\/1355719829366444035?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 31, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/01\/30\/politics\/butch-bowers-deborah-barbier-trump-impeachment-team\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/01\/30\/us\/politics\/trump-butch-bowers-impeachment.html\">The New York Times<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-politics-impeachments-trials-373faf83e36e5fd2e4be1bdf46b406ff\">Associated Press<\/a> noted that the team fell apart after Trump wanted them to focus on claims that the election was stolen from through election fraud\u2014a claim that former Attorney General William Barr, a favorite in Trump world, had completely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/its-just-bulls-ag-william-barr-warned-trump-his-legal-team-was-lying-to-him-report-says\">dismissed<\/a> as false. The lawyers reportedly said no and that was when the parties decided to part ways.<\/p>\n<p>Barr, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-ag-barr-authorizes-federal-prosecutors-to-pursue-substantial-allegations-of-voting-irregularities-report-says\">authorized<\/a> federal prosecutors to pursue every legitimate claim of election fraud immediately after the election, later <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/barr-no-widespread-election-fraud-b1f1488796c9a98c4b1a9061a6c7f49d\">said<\/a> that prosecutors had \u201cnot seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barr was confronted by Trump in early December about his comments that the election was not stolen.<\/p>\n<p>Axios\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/trump-barr-relationship-off-the-rails-b33b3788-e7e9-47fa-84c5-3a0016559eb5.html\">reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThese things aren\u2019t panning out,\u201d\u00a0Barr told the president, standing beside his chief of staff Will Levi. \u201cThe stuff that these people are filling your ear with just isn\u2019t true.\u201d Barr explained that if Trump wanted to contest the election results, the president\u2019s internal campaign lawyers would have to do it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Justice Department, he continued, had looked at the major fraud allegations that Trump\u2019s lawyers had leveled. \u201cIt\u2019s just bullshit,\u201d Barr told the president. [White House counsel Pat] Cipollone backed up Barr by saying the DOJ was investigating these claims.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The report indicated that Cipollone and others in the room were stunned that Barr came out and said it in such a blunt manner, even though they agreed. Barr reportedly warned Trump that his legal team was \u201cclownish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a pretty informed legal observer and I can\u2019t f***ing figure out what the theory is here,\u201d Barr reportedly said in reference to the claims that Trump\u2019s legal team were making. \u201cIt\u2019s just scattershot.
