It\u2019s a stock photo that has been online since at least 2012.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nine tornadoes hit south-central Nebraska on Dec. 15, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=NWS&amp;issuedby=GID&amp;product=PNS&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Weather Service<\/a> (NSW). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Grand+Island,+NE\/@40.9219153,-98.4298739,19500m\/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x87998644ec7765f7:0xa12d5b784951b17b!8m2!3d40.9263957!4d-98.3420118\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grand Island<\/a> experienced 85 mile-per-hour storm wind and a record-high 69-degree that day, local NBC affiliate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksnblocal4.com\/2021\/12\/16\/wild-wednesday-weather-wrap-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KSNB-TV<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The picture in the Dec. 15 Facebook post shows what appears to be a tornado landing on a road while lightning strikes on the side. The post\u2019s caption reads, \u201cThis was at Grand Island.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/07\/30\/fact-check-multiple-tornadoes-simultaneously-kansas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Viral Image Claims To Show Multiple Tornadoes Simultaneously Ripping Through Kansas)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The photo does not, however, show a scene from Nebraska\u2019s recent extreme weather. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ekologia.pl\/wywiady\/traby-powietrzne-nad-polska-wywiad-z-szymonem-walczakiewiczem,17109.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">picture<\/a> has been circulating online since at least 2012, when it was shared in a blog post. UK-based photographer, illustrator and vector artist&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shutterstock.com\/g\/solarseven\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Solarseven<\/a>&nbsp;seems to have produced the image, publishing it on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dreamstime.com\/royalty-free-stock-photo-powerful-tornado-image25686605\">many<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shutterstock.com\/image-photo\/powerful-tornado-destroying-property-lightning-background-107588384\">stock<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.123rf.com\/photo_14487997_powerful-tornado-destroying-property-with-lightning-in-the-background.html\">material<\/a> websites.<\/p>\n<p>The large storm causing the recent Nebraska tornadoes impacted many other nearby states, with severe weather being reported in places from the Great Lakes to the southern Rocky Mountains, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/safety\/tornado\/news\/2021-12-15-severe-weather-forecast-damaging-winds-tornadoes-midwest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Weather Channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Grand Island has seen notable tornado activity in the past. On the evening of June 3, 1980, seven tornadoes occurred in or close to the city, according to the NWS\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/gid\/53032\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Weather Forecast Office<\/a> in Hastings, Nebraska.
