Schumer has brought them to the floor throughout 2021, but Republicans have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/22\/chuck-schumer-joe-manchin-senate-voting-rights-bill-mitch-mcconnell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">repeatedly blocked them<\/a>, with the GOP saying that they amount to little more than a federal takeover of elections. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/20\/senate-republicans-block-democrats-compromise-voting-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Republicans Kill Democrats\u2019 Compromise Voting Bill)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If the Senate were to abolish the 60-vote threshold, Democrats could pass a voting bill over Republican objections as long as every member of the majority votes in favor.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7329837\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"32\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7329837\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer speaks to reporters Tuesday. He would need backing from every Democrat, assuming that every Republican would be opposed, and moderate Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona have repeatedly opposed altering the filibuster in any way.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/22\/kyrsten-sinema-reaffirms-opposition-abolishing-filibuster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Sinema Again Says She Won\u2019t Support Altering Filibuster)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Manchin on Sunday also officially came out as a \u201cno\u201d on Democrats\u2019 social spending package, severely, if not mortally, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/19\/joe-manchin-no-vote-joe-biden-build-back-better-spending-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">imperiling the bill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the uncertain support, Schumer said that forcing a vote would put senators\u2019 positions on changing Senate rules on-the-record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe our constituents deserve to know which Senators choose to hide behind ill-conceived and abused rules and which Senators prefer to restore Senate floor procedures to better align with the Founders\u2019 intentions,\u201d Schumer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMembers will be given the chance to debate on the Senate floor and cast a vote so that their choice on this matter is clear and available for everyone to see,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
