Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced that he could not vote for President Joe Biden\u2019s Build Back Better Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople can be mad at Manchin all they want, but we knew he would do this months ago,\u201d she said. \u201cWhere we need answers from are the leaders who promised a path on [Build Back Better] if&nbsp;[the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework]&nbsp;passed: Biden &amp; Dem leaders. *They* chose to move BIF alone instead of w\/ BBB, not Manchin. So they need to fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manchin\u2019s announcement dooms Democrats\u2019 chances of passing the multi-trillion social spending bill, which experts say will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2021\/11\/18\/bidens-build-back-better-bill-would-add-deficit-cbo-estimate-says\/6360581001\/\">add<\/a> to the national debt, despite the Biden administration\u2019s repeated claim that it would cost nothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I just can\u2019t. I\u2019ve tried everything humanly possible. I can\u2019t get there,\u201d Manchin told Fox News anchor Bret Baier Sunday morning. \u201cThis is a no on this legislation. I have tried everything I know to do. And the president has worked diligently. He\u2019s been wonderful to work with. He knows I\u2019ve had concerns and the problems I\u2019ve had and, you know, the thing that we should all be directing our attention towards, the variant, a COVID that we have coming back at us in so many different aspects in different ways, it\u2019s affecting our lives again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez quickly lashed out at Manchin following his announcement, writing on Twitter: \u201cWhen a handful of us in the House warned this would happen if Dem leaders gave Manchin everything he wanted 1st by moving BIF&nbsp;[Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework] before BBB [Build Back Better] instead of passing together, many ridiculed our position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe they\u2019ll believe us next time. Or maybe people will just keep calling us na\u00efve,\u201d she continued. \u201cEither way, we cannot accept no for an answer.
