Lou Barletta (R-PA) believes Democrat leaders in Pennsylvania have contributed to Philadelphia\u2019s record-breaking wave of murders by failing to prioritize law and order, he said during an interview on SiriusXM\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Breitbart News Saturday<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Barletta, who is hoping to replace term-limited Gov. Tom Wolf (D) next year, cited Wolf, Attorney General Josh Shapiro (D), Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney (D), and Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner (D) as those who share blame for the City of Brotherly Love\u2019s grim homicide statistics.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhen you put all this liberalism in one basket, this is what we get \u2014 not only a record number of murders in Philadelphia, but a record number of overdoses,\u201d Barletta said. \u201cIt\u2019s just unbelievable. People are afraid to go out of their homes. And that\u2019s what you get when you talk about defunding the police and some of these policies that are destroying our great cities in America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen:<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>2021 will go down as the deadliest year in recent history in Philadelphia in terms of homicides. The Philadelphia Police Department&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phillypolice.com\/crime-maps-stats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;that as of December 9, the city had seen 524 homicides, up from 499 in 2020 and surpassing the record set in 1990 of 500.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe numbers speak for themselves. I mean, people are alarmed. Businesses are alarmed,\u201d Barletta said, adding that he visited Philadelphia this past week and spoke to a business owner there who said he was attacked once on his way home.<\/p>\n<p>The Pennsylvania Republican highlighted what he perceived to be failures of Democrat leaders in his state that have given way to an increase in violent crime.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16534760\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"36\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/05\/wi\/ap\/13\/disaster-ballot-questions-pennsylvania-gov-tom-wolf-encourages-pennsylvanians-vote-no-disaster.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-16534760\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/disaster-ballot-questions-pennsylvania-gov-tom-wolf-encourages-pennsylvanians-vote-no-disaster-1024x757-1.jpg\" alt=\"The Associated Press\" width=\"644\" height=\"476\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gov. Wolf, a Democrat governor at the helm of a Republican-majority state legislature, also just&nbsp;<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/03\/democrat-tom-wolf-vetoes-constitutional-carry-for-pennsylvania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vetoed<\/a>&nbsp;a bill this month that would have made Pennsylvania the 22nd state to allow constitutional carry.<\/p>\n<p>Another prominent Pennsylvanian, Shapiro, who is running for governor on the Democrats\u2019 side, \u201cwould rather go after the Little Sisters of the Poor than go down into the Kensington part of Philadelphia, which is the largest open air drug market east of the Mississippi,\u201d Barletta contended, making a reference to the&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/supreme-court-oral-arguments-employer-birth-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">litigation<\/a>&nbsp;between Shapiro and the Trump administration over exempting the Little Sisters of the Poor and other employers from providing insurance-covered birth control.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>As another example of law and order disregard, Barletta pointed to Philadelphia Mayor Kenney\u2019s celebratory dance he did in 2018&nbsp;when a court ruling further&nbsp;<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/08\/15\/exclusive-lou-barletta-pledges-end-sanctuary-cities-pennsylvania-elected-governor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">solidified<\/a>&nbsp;the city\u2019s immigration sanctuary status.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.0754716981132\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Needless to say, I think <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/janeslusser?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@janeslusser<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhillyMayor?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PhillyMayor<\/a> are pretty excited about today\u2019s ruling affirming Philadelphia as a Sanctuary City. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gdnnjZT9ps\">pic.twitter.com\/gdnnjZT9ps<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Steve Preston (@StevePrest) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StevePrest\/status\/1004406985343848448?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 6, 2018<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>As a final example, Barletta noted District Attorney Krasner\u2019s comment on December 6 that in Philadelphia, \u201cWe don\u2019t have a crisis of lawlessness. We don\u2019t have a crisis of crime. We don\u2019t have a crisis of violence.\u201d The <em>Philadelphia Inquirer<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/larry-krasner-gun-violence-philadelphia-apology-20211213.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detailed<\/a> how Krasner was forced to apologize after his remarks drew sharp criticism across the political spectrum in the wake of the city\u2019s record murder rate.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"11.007662835249\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Yesterday, I expressed my regret and acknowledged any pain my comments last week may have caused survivors, co-victims, and communities experiencing our city&#8217;s gun violence crisis:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/J00j8ZvLD9\">https:\/\/t.co\/J00j8ZvLD9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 DA Larry Krasner (@DA_LarryKrasner) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DA_LarryKrasner\/status\/1470801192376745987?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 14, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While Philadelphia has not moved to strip funding from its police department, Barletta said the \u201cdefund the police\u201d sentiments of the far-left members of the Democrat Party, which sprang from Black Lives Matter protests and riots over police brutality last year, have nevertheless also contributed to the violent crime wave.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis is exactly what happens when all this talk about defunding our police and the police are wrong,\u201d Barletta said.&nbsp;\u201cYou know, the Democrat Party, this is not the party that we grew up with. This is now a party of lawlessness, and that ends here in Pennsylvania. Law and order is coming back in the 2022 election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Should he be elected governor, Barletta, who made headlines during his decade-long tenure as Hazleton mayor for his fight against illegal migration, said banning sanctuary jurisdictions would be a top priority as he seeks to control crime in the Keystone State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not going to sit back, and you know, when you declare yourself a sanctuary city, if you\u2019re a criminal alien, where the hell are you gonna go? \u2026 They\u2019re going to go to those cities [where they] are being protected by their elected officials at the expense of the taxpayers, who feel helpless right now in Philadelphia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barletta also said he supports a Republican-sponsored bill&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billtrack50.com\/billdetail\/1339170\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">introduced<\/a>&nbsp;by state Rep. Martina White that would permit recalls of certain elected officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to hold people accountable that should be the DA, the mayor, the attorney general. The governor can bring all the resources possible, and that\u2019s exactly what I\u2019m going to do. Every resource at my fingertips, I\u2019m going to bring it into Philadelphia. I\u2019m going to shine a light on those who are not doing their jobs,\u201d Barletta vowed. \u201cWe\u2019re putting the people of Philadelphia at risk. I\u2019m going to bring everything I possibly can to put an end to this lawlessness that\u2019s going on in Philadelphia.
