The field trip was for those students interested in becoming a teacher, which involved a \u201cluncheon [to] discuss the importance of considering education as a career as a person of color.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"12.361271676301\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In a statement, the principal of Downers Grove South, Ed Schwartz, told me that the school planned the racially-segregated program to &#8220;provide the opportunity for students of color to be partnered with a group of teachers who look like them and have had similar life experiences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Christopher F. Rufo \u2694\ufe0f (@realchrisrufo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realchrisrufo\/status\/1471558572798451716?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Downers Grove High School administrators <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2021\/dec\/17\/federal-complaints-filed-against-colorado-illinois\/\">claimed<\/a> the trip was an \u201copportunity for all students\u201d and that the flier \u201cwas created by a new staff member and the flier was immediately removed when we recognized that it could be misinterpreted that the field trip was not open to all students,\u201d according to the <em>Washington Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Despite that, several announcements from the school, published prior to PDE\u2019s filing, have language that appears racially segregative. A December 16 announcement <a href=\"https:\/\/us11.campaign-archive.com\/?u=edb22d3a7d4b05eef6cf5228f&amp;id=19cf017513\">said,<\/a> \u201c<strong>If you are a student of color<\/strong> &amp; you are interested in teaching, then this upcoming field trip opportunity is for you.\u201d [Emphasis added].<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19189906\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"33\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screenshot-2021-12-19-133437.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19189906\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screenshot-2021-12-19-133437.jpg\" alt=\"Downers Grove South High School student announcement. [Highlight added].<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The announcement the following day, the day of the civil rights complaint filing, <a href=\"https:\/\/us11.campaign-archive.com\/?u=edb22d3a7d4b05eef6cf5228f&amp;id=7f79d84903\">used<\/a> the same terminology. On the school district\u2019s diversity, inclusion, and equity page, they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csd99.org\/boe\/equity-and-inclusion\">claim<\/a> their \u201cequity work dates back to 2013.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This incident is only the latest in a series of schools across the country implementing racially segregated events.<\/p>\n<p>As Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/17\/federal-civil-rights-complaint-filed-against-denver-schools-over-racial-segregation\/\">reported<\/a>, PDE filed a similar civil rights complaint against Denver Public Schools because \u201cone of its elementary schools hosted a racially segregated \u2018families of color playground night.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.6598639455782\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">From &#8220;separate but equal&#8221; to &#8220;separate but equitable.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/NcUVqXe0Du\">pic.twitter.com\/NcUVqXe0Du<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Christopher F. Rufo \u2694\ufe0f (@realchrisrufo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realchrisrufo\/status\/1470866729999945743?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 14, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While the school district insists that \u201call families are welcome to attend all of our events,\u201d University of Denver constitutional law professor Dave Kopel asked, \u201cThen why isn\u2019t it called \u2018Family Night\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat if that sign had said \u2018White Family Night\u2019?\u201d Kopel continued, \u201cBut then the school said, \u2018Oh, people of color can come too.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News has reported on multiple other racially segregated events, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/07\/massachusetts-middle-school-offers-racially-segregated-safe-spaces-for-students-to-process-rittenhouse-arbery-verdicts\/\">including<\/a> two in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/29\/segregation-for-racial-justice-massachusetts-principal-promises-racially-divided-spaces-over-rittenhouse-verdict\/\">Massachusetts<\/a> designed to help students \u201cprocess\u201d the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict, another in Massachusetts \u2014 in which PDE filed a federal lawsuit \u2014 for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/21\/federal-lawsuit-filed-against-massachusetts-school-district-over-racial-segregation-speech-codes\/\">hosting<\/a> \u201caffinity groups, and yet another in New York to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/26\/manhattan-school-racially-segregate-children-social-justice-talks\/\">discuss<\/a> the question, \u201cHow do our racial identities influence our experiences?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Breccan F.
